I’m wanting to buy a cat comm adapter , so I can plug in when needed. I’m hoping to find a good used setup, and have found several, but I see there’s several versions and part numbers. Can anyone tell me what the newer version is, that can plug into USB port on laptop? Will mainly be using on heavy Equipment, I almost messed up snd bought a setup recently, then noticed it was the older type that only plugged into a serial port on laptop.
Thanks

G..G..G..Granville.........!! Fetch your cloth.
Latest version is the Communication Adapter 3, often referred to as CA3.
Cat Part Number is either 466-6258 or 538-5051. There is an earlier version 317-7484.
FYI for older versions of the CA that used a Serial Port connection there is a fly lead available (can't remember the P/N) that interfaces USB-to-Serial but it tneds to be a bit clunky.
I take it that you already have ET software on the laptop.?

Thanks Nige.. that’s what I needed. I talked to a couple guys in the past that tried a serial/usb converter snd they said it was a pain. I’d rather just pony up and buy a more modern version with usb :)
No sir I don’t have the ET yet, but plan on getting it.

For what it’s worth, the Tripp- Lite U209-000-R usb A to ub9 adapter works well with com adapters from Bobcat and Cat, Liquid Controls, Deep Sea and a few others that slip my mind. The drivers are already loaded on the Tripp-Lite so no extra disc or website hassle.

Got a 538-5051 on the way , now to find ET. I put in an email to buddy of mine that works the parts Dept at local cat dealer. Hopefully he replies with some info
I’ve gotten in a jam 3-4 times in the last 6 months working on equipment and needing to plug in, I was able to borrow a friends setup , but that was a pain trying to get it where he wasn’t needing it plus the fact I had to drive 45 miles to get it. Hopefully this fixes me up. I’m skeered about the ET pricing now though , after Nige said the pricing
