Looking at a new tractor.
Will be mainly used fencing with a post driver on the back.
Need 4wd, open ROPS and a FEL capable of lifting 1000kg pallets of cattle lick.
Can live with synchro shuttle, don't need power shuttle.
Looked at all the big brands, either 10-20k more expensive or have tier 4 engines (dpf, etc), or both.
Narrowed it down to a Massey 4707 and a Kioti 9520.
Massey is made in China, Kioti made in Korea.
Both similar in that both are tier2 engines, cable clutch with synchro shuttle, no real electronics to speak off, etc, etc.
Just basic old school machines.
Kioti is 10k dearer, but 20hp more with a lager physical size.
TBH a bit concerned about the build quality of both, Massey is a more recognised brand but made in China, and Kioti is probably a bit off being a "major" brand.
Anyone have any current experience with either manufacturer?

Both a good choices. Agco is producing good products in my opinion. I have never owned a koiti but know lots of people who have them in the 45hp range and have nothing but great things to say about them. IMO speaking from personal experience its the service after the sale that usually comes into play. What the shop like at the dealer. Im big red through and through from birth but that's another story. Brand loyalty isn't always in my best interest..

Thanks for that.
Been doing a bit more digging myself.
Seems that both Case and John DEERE do produce "basic" machines in my specs as well, however they seem to be more "lightly" built as a result. Their specs are nearly half of the Massey and Kioti despite same hp and the same price.
I think the Massey is in front atm.
75hp, so 20 less than the Kioti, which is bad.
500kg more lift at the loader.
700kg more lift at 3pl.
Weighs 300kgs less, which is bad, but is physically a small machine a little bit closer to the ground with bigger tyres, so better stability.
Kioti has better warranty, 2yrs extra on powertrain.
And Massey is 10k cheaper.
I have no brand loyalty, only tractor I have owned is an old 90hp Ford.
Everything else is construction equipment which doesn't cross over to the ag side of things.
Dealer will be a gamble whichever way I go, I have no experience with any.

I've only owned John Deere and Kubota one the years both have been good build quality but for me, as everyone says, it comes down to local service. That said if the equipment is easy enough to work on myself service becomes less of an issue unless it's major.

With the smaller tractors (under 90hp) I find them to in many cases have lesser build quality, nothing major has gone wrong for me, just seen more issues on the smaller tractors under 50hp. I tend to lean towards how much support I can find online and how easy parts, tools, manuals, etc. are to obtain. My guess is MF will have a larger support network though I know Kioti is growing.

My Neighbor just bought a Kioti last year and is still very happy with it. I don't remember the model he has but I believe it is around 45-50hp. At one point I was looking at MF tractor at a local dealer but was deterred when I saw it was built in China. Most anything I've purchased equipment wise made in China has had some shortcoming in quality more so than other areas of the world. Japan, Germany US, UK, Canada, Austria, Italy, even Mexico I've had better luck with.

Best of luck though since in my experience, it mostly comes down to luck :)

Post pounder is a tractor destroying device. The vibration, hammering and tall twisting load can be break otherwise long life designs.

We have one of the largest Kioti dealership in the country down the road. For the most part, good machines. The Brazilian made Agco has a great reputation as a simple tough tractor except for the occasional "Lemon". Chinese made Agco I'm not up to date with. Seen both brands broken in half. Make sure that the loader capacity is realistic for what you want to do. Hanging lots of weight off the back and driving around with whatever the loader can barely lift doesn't always work out well.

Look both over very carefully and have a plan before you buy. Do you want to run it for 40 years or get something fresh before you rub to much of the "new" off of it. Selling it to someone else before the pounder finds weak points so someone can go mow roadsides.

" made in china " what's not. Have not run across any manufacturer of any equipment that is not using something made in china. . made in china is just the norm. I don't even think twice about it anymore when I see it. The quality still meets or exceeds ISO standards.

Thanks guys.
I'm pretty sold on the Massey, as was mentioned all of the manufacturers are producing in cheap labour countries now, so as long as QC is done then should be good.
Again the Massey outspecs the Kioti and beats it on price as well.
The only specs that I came close to exceeding were the loader lift.
Massey exceeds my max lift by 500kg, Kioti pretty much on max.
Other brands who's lift was approx 200kg under my max said the tractor will do it, it will be all good.
I replied it probably will as this max lift is only unloading a pallets from the truck into the shed on flat ground.
BUT, if the front axle breaks in half and I'm lifting over max capacity then you will deny warranty, so thanks but no thanks.
Will be keeping it long term, main reason for going low tech, no electronics or emission controls to go bad over time.
Machine shouldn't see a lot of hours. I will have probably 3-4 months fencing before Christmas, but it will probably spend 6 mths in the shed after that. Will never see a plow.

I run AGCO tractors on and haul them for the local dealer. The 4700 series wasn't a god seller here, there is a 4710 that I'm usually hauling back for transmission issues. If you do go with it I'd highly recommend getting the extended warranty.

Have you considered Mahindra tractors, no tech and well built from all accounts I have heard

Yeah the 4710 has the power shuttle tranny, the 4707 has the simpler synchro shuttle, hopefully less to go wrong.
Didn't look at the Mahindra, had a mate with a lucerne farm (also a qualified mechanic) he wasn't happy with his. Another bloke in the industry warned me off, and one of the Massey dealers (also sold Mahindra) also recommended Massey over the Mahindra. The dealer may have made more money selling Massey, I don't know, but I trust the other two sources so for once in my life decided to listen to some advice. I literally didn't even look at one.
I actually placed the order on the Massey 4707 this arvo.
Tractor is in stock, loader should arrive end of the month, collect middle of August.
Thanks to all for your inputs.
