Is it possible to pin engine on number 6 cylinder? Pulled front cover and pinned gear then pulled plug and pinned crankshaft, changed pump per book. Now it will start but get a code 261-11, it is a cat reman pump. s/n 666023XX

Not sure about the 6.6 but most engines I’ve seen can be pinned on #1 and #6. For example when running the overhead on a c15 you turn the engine until the bolt slides in the hole for number one, adjust 6 valves and then rotate engine until bolt slides back in hole and adjust the other 6. Typically the best way is to pin engine and check to make sure both valves on #1 are closed if that’s how the procedure is run. If you were off 180 degrees it wouldn’t start.

Yea we bought the tool and I put it on the old pump then pulled the speed sensor and saw where the wide tooth was. Then pinned engine and pulled speed sensor and could see half of wide tooth in top of hole. Thought maybe I messed up timing but pulled lock bolt and you could see where it was hitting on shaft in middle of hole. Wish you could have had that on before we bought tool could have saved $420.00 but now we know.
