A different type of heavy equipment?

Saw this and it seems a departure from the norm.

straddle and sling pick big loads and carry them. Reminds me of the straddle carriers I grew up around, freaking scary things for a little kid on a bicycle!
Whirring chain drives and usually going heII bent for election, they would fly around the corner and the operator seemed always to be on the other side from you. We were cautious but curious about the fruit warehouse district in our town.
I can't even find a picture of the beasts.

Just never knew it was something Drott/Tenneco offered.

That particular brochure is for a boat travel lift. Picks up a boat (25-50 feet for that size) out of the water and places it on blocking in the yard. They come much larger (mega yacht sized).

That's the wrong configuration for a boat lift. A boat lift lifts from the sides with open clearance at one end.

I've seen much bigger ones in heavy industrial applications. Just surprised Drott made them.

Seen those used in Lumber Yards/Saw Mill lots.

First time seeing this type of equipment. What is the standard size used for lumber yards?

WAS used, like 50+ years ago and not any longer.
Fork trucks got bigger better faster and less to maintain.

Some industrial fabricators still use them.

Same kind of apparatus used in rail yards for picking intermodal containers and trailers from the rail..If you notice operators compartment is only on one side of the crane and there are lines painted on both sides of the tracks in the rail yard that are "NO PARK" zones once you retrieve your trailer or container... Was sitting in a rail yard in Chicago one time and witnessed a JB Hunt cabover tractor damn near ripped off its frame when the driver didn't pay attention to the signs posted everywhere and the crane was coming down the tracks with box cars on the tracks and couldn't see JB on the other side of the train, although several people tried warning the driver on the radio it was too late...I'm sure the driver had to visit the emergency room to get the seat cushion surgically removed from his hind end, but it sure was a learning experience for all that witnessed the event...

They use straddle lifts to move barrels of Bourbon at the Jim Beam distillery here. They look to be very old.
