Was wanting some feedback if the evap coolers are worth the money to help cool the shop? I'm in Indiana so we do have humidity so that could be a problem from what i hear. thanks for any input.
It's better than nothing, but they're trouble in humidity. My experience was in factories with ovens. Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina. We eventually replaced them with chilled water air coils. .. Grows algae and other nasty stuff. Minerals clog the nozzles and media. Had coolers with a slinger system that were clog free but still not satisfactory.
The portable evap coolers were good at spot cooling if one was working in front of it.
We use crap loads of them out here. Yeah once you get up in the 15-20% humidity and higher the aren't much good but otherwise they work great out her in the desert.
As long as you keep up on your maintenance too and cleaning. Purge and/or flush pumps really help too.
In a perfect world, you would double your relative humidity to get a 20F reduction in temperature. In reality, doubling the rh won't give you a 20F drop. Works if your rh starts at 25%, gets miserable if you start with a rh of 50%. Sustained rh above about 70% and rust may become an issue.
