Data showed excess speed and no braking. I'm betting Tiger fell asleep as he has done before. Not sure if because of taking something(meds) or just a condition he has. Because it's him everything is kind of hush, hush. I think his license should be revoked. Darn good thing no one was coming the other way. Tiger's career might be over too. He's lucky for modern tech. like air bags but he was driving the latest high tech. vehicle with the data recorder type device. Anyone else would have been charged with dangerous/careless driving. Celebrity status shouldn't matter.

Most modern cars have a minute or two of memory for most sensors, states, internal codes... the manufacturers want no part of the insurance/liability/lawsuit game, they only trot the information out when they're the deer in the headlights.

Wouldn't make any difference anyway if the dealers are instructed to delete any information anyway. There are no laws at the federal level that I know of that require operational memory. Mr. lantraxco is correct about manufacturers. They don't want anyway that any accident could be blamed on inherent defect.

I'm just saying if it wasn't Tiger, there would probably be a lot more digging into and reporting on what happened and why. If it's a result of a manufacturer defect, they should be held accountable. Actually isn't a bad idea if it was ever made mandatory. Could be used to show why someone died or had an accident and take the long guess work out of it. If Tiger did fall asleep, would you really want to be anywhere near him when he's driving? (driver or pedestrian)

In speaking to a Ford Tech, our Exploder retains 12-20 seconds dependent of what all is happening data sequence occurrence within the ECM(s) being as it is CAN BUS there are processors are all over the car. And yes they can read the last 10-20 seconds prior to a event if have a catastrophic incident. Can disclaim warranties based on this. Wife's running across the 8" log and her shutting it off was logged, the ABS actuation was permanently logged with tires pressure failures as the tech showed me but will over write after a few months. Our warranties on the car voided at that point in time but it is a 2017.

Actually, I read a [verbal] report from the police chief or fire chief after all the hubbub had died down. He stated why they had investigated it the way they did and it sounded perfectly reasonable to me. Having worked in emergency services in the past.

However, this information did not make the front page of anything because it was just boring reports and the media had moved on to fresher news.

I would guess not to assume anything that may or may not have caused a crash involving a celebrity. It was a crash, it was a celebrity and we're leaving it at that. Releasing much more could destroy someone's reputation whether it was true or false. I think you need to look at the big picture. Most important was nobody was killed. I still think if Tiger has a medical condition he should at least have a restricted drivers license. He was badly injured so lets hope he can make a full recovery and resume his career. I think my current condition has made me much more empathetic of people who are sick or injured. Who cares why, you wouldn't want to be in that situation.
