Hi friends,
I am looking for your kind advice as more experienced people are on this forum.
I had a volvo ew 160 b excavator had a big ECU problem with it, the area in which i operate is in the middle of nowhere,
NO MECHANICS, NO WORKSHOPS NEARBY .
Even for any part "" have to order it from overseas""
The Volvo ECU gave me a problem and was unable to transport the machine , the technicians dint want to go that far. Any how got rid of it .
Please advice any small/mid size wheel excavator or rubber track machine with is good for work and can be fixed in field .
Minimum complicated electronics ,
No ECU .
I know as the technology has changed but
still ??

I think you'd have to go well into the 1980's to find a machine without any kind of computer, and any machine that old would be so obsolete it would be tough to find any kind of parts for. You'll certainly have computers for hydraulic controls by the 1990's, though ECU's came in a bit later. I guess the short answer is, the older it is the simpler it is. Though that doesn't necessarily make it more reliable

Good day
To the best of my knowledge the Volvo wheeled excavator has an ECU by-pass for such a case, from memory you have to move a couple of cables. Finding an excavator today without a ECU of some kind will be difficult.
Kind regards

As said above, the older the simpler it will be. Straight mechanical machines will be mostly pre- 1986.

Depending on the size of the machine, there were mechanical fuel injection engines in machines up into the nineties. Micro processors for machine operations were installed in the eighties but they weren't all that complicated. Most started out without onboard diagnostics but that was incorporated in the early 2000 time frame on most excavators in some fashion or other. The facts of life are that if you want something productive in this day, you are going to have to have provision for someone to be able to maintain and repair it. The operation of machines requires the tools and the personnel that can keep it running.

Maybe find and restore a Cat 225B? It’s not going to save any money, but you can fix it with a rock and get parts for it.

Thank you for your reply. VOLVO EW160 B year of Manufactur 2003 has a manual auto switch but switching it to manual mode takes the excavator on bypass but machine starts on full power with no shock locks and moves really slow .
