"You mean this isn't the address where I'm supposed to deliver this too?"
Haha, you remind me of a story from way back. Bob M. was a friend of my brother's, and he had a 2 ton cornbinder from the 50's he delivered hay with.
Bro was going to help barn the hay and was following in his car. Truck cut a little close to the deep ditch at the driveway, and over she goes on the driver's door. The passenger door pops open and out comes Bob's dog, then Bob. The homeowner is out there by now and Bob says " I hope this is where you want the hay! " :D

So you guys DownUnder have special police for wide load escorts? How does that work?

Here in my part of the States we usually have a couple of meth heads in a Ford Escort with a flashing light cutting across lanes of traffic several hundred yards behind the oversized load they are supposed to be "escorting".

Police are required for loads over 5.5m (18ft) wide.
The wider the load the more police needed.
Wouldn’t be a cheap exercise.

UK is the same. Police escort requirement (or not as the case may be) will initially be entirely dependent on the dimensions of the load. Above a certain size permits will be required and the route the load will take will also be factored into the escort requirements. If a permit has to be requested then basically whatever it says after being issued regarding escorts, police, limitations on travel after dark, etc, is effectively what the transport contractor has to do or the load doesn’t move.
