Land Leveler

Thinking about getting a land leveler for my 299D. Hydraulic scarifier teeth seem to be a necessity, but do these actually work? I have about 30 acres surrounding ponds I built that needs to be smoothed out. I'm tired of using my bucket. It works but it takes forever. The CL Fab one looks good.

I would be using farm machinery for smoothing out 30 acres. Six months ago you could have bought everything you need for $3,000, 100hp tractor included, and probably double your money by now. If you don't have any farm equipment now, I'd try to find a neighbor interested in the work.

I have a 60HP tractor. You talking about pulling a box blade?

Or pull a land plane behind your tractor. Be way less wear on the expensive 299 you have.

I think @Delmer is suggesting a tractor pulling a field cultivator with a cultipacker behind it. They do a nice job of leveling large areas and firming it up to seed.

Also, a cultimulcher would be a reasonable option if there isn't too much vegetative growth to deal with. We always ran a cultimulcher in front of our drill when we seeded alfalfa to get a real smooth, level, firm field to plant into. Today we use a 32 ft cultivator with an optimizer, then drill the seed, then roll it with a 40ft roller to firm up the seedbed and knock small rocks back down. But we're also trying to plant 100+ acres of alfalfa in a very narrow planting window in early spring.

What else do you have for the tractor to pull? Around here a field cultivator or quack digger is cheap and will loosen the soil 4" or so and level slightly. If you need more leveling and the soil is already loose, then a log or I beam drag is easy to fabricate. Or pull an eye beam behind a quack digger. The Hp to the soil is far cheaper and more efficient with a farm tractor than a skid steer, the skid steer is great for loading, or doing work in a yard. Open field favors the tractor.

30 acres is a huge chunk of land to be working with a steer but if your dedicated to it then I would till it with the tractor and run over it with the land leveler, they work really good but it will save a lot of hours off your 299 by breaking up the ground first with the tractor. I’d simply do it in sections and not attempt to do it all at once. If the ground is loosened up first the skiddy will make short work of it and you will get a better ending result as well IMO.

I agree a farm tractor with the proper implement will be the best choice. Your choice might be narrowed down a bit depending on the surface condition, terrain, soil type... Do you plan to seed it?
