Cut bearing race tools?

I have some bearing races (mostly needle bearings), that I can’t pound against, as the support will get damaged. I can completely remove and press them out, but it’s a big job. I am thinking I need something like a die grinder cut off wheel on a sawsall blade. Normal sawsall blades don’t seem to cut it (the races are hard, maybe stainless). Ideas?

They make carbide grit sawzall blades for cutting cast iron, that would cut the race, but it would be slow and you don't have a lot of control with a sawzall. The races are very hard, regular hacksaw blades won't touch it.

Any chance you could weld or torch them? a picture might get a better suggestion.

I normally remove a bearing race if at all possible by heating it with a torch in four places and they normally practically fall out with some very light tapping. Whether that would work for your kind I don’t know I mainly remove normal cone style bearing races.

I don’t have a pic of a bad one, but here is what a new one looks like. Inside diameter is 1 inch, and it’s 1.5 inches long.

We need to see what's special about where they're mounted that you can't pound them out. Torch is easy if you can, welder will work if that's all you have. Either one will shrink the housing and it will pull out easily.

I’ll try to post a pic of the location. But I have less then 20 inches between pieces. These are on a grain drill (seeder/planter) and there isn’t lots of clearance. Removing the entire thing is 4 or so hours, doing it on the equipment is like less then 20 minutes.

Definitely a photo will help get you better suggestions. I'm familiar with planters so point out the location of the bearing. Perhaps a "C" press might work in your 20 inches. Or a jack screw ala cylinder sleeve puller.

I'm with Bluox on this, Blind Hole bearing puller is a wonder for these.

That is what is considered a 'Torrington' bearing but is seldom spoken anymore.

So, here is the pic. The one underlined in black, is the one I don’t really want to pound against, as its the inside of the rod of the hyd cylinder. The other 2 are bottom pivots, the far one isn’t visible, but I think you’ll understand.45594D75-E2B8-43C8-8896-93F0F7993542.jpeg

I don't see any reason not to pound them out or press them out. Put a bigger socket behind the end of the rod with a large sledge behind that, and pound away. Or press them out, or torch or weld some beads to shrink them.

Maybe doesn't matter, but I wonder why they used a roller bearing there instead of a bushing? maybe it's a light load and a lot of cycles and they didn't want to have to grease it.

I built this, and plan to use it with hallow ram and my porta power (if using all thread wont pull it). It’ll be a bit before I get to this project, but I’ll let you know, what finally worked.
