My hydraulic pump came apart last fall and internally blew up sending metal chunks throughout the hydraulic system. Over the winter I rebuilt said pump. I've clean out hydro tank, new filter. Had a friend mention to install a "kidney loop filter" for extra filtration and then run it... im second guessing myself and a little afraid of damaging new pump. Dealer has been no help with advice, they say replace every component before running it to be safe at price of around $20k. Any hydro experts out there with good advice?

The typical program for a machine with a failure like this, other than truly disassembling literally every piece of the hydraulic system and physically cleaning it, would be to have a dealer or hydraulic shop with a filter cart plumb in where the pump connects up, sucking oil from the tank and circulating it around the system for a time, in hopes of cleaning most of the fine particles out. Usually these run a 10 micron and then a 3 micron filter and pass the oil through for several hours. Another possibility if there's room would be to install a spin on suction filter with a bypass indicator on your new pump to catch hopefully most of the bits that come loose.

Thanks guys the input. I've got a new return filter installed. Is there a correct spot to tie into the pump with the suction filter? Or can I attach to any main port.
