Volve ECR145CL 2008 Problem

Good morning,

Having some problems with my Volvo ECR 145CL 2008.

It is coming up with the fault code PWM9101-05 which is the proportional valve. I have tested the valve and i am getting a reading of 17.5ohms which i believe is what it should be. No damage to the wires that i can see. I am concerned it could be the V-ECM?

A few months ago i had a fault with SE9122. I found the sensor had a cracked housing. I removed the sensor and dried it, resealed the case. When i refitted it the machine ran fine. Strangely though after fixing, when you pulled the plug to that sensor it would not throw a code? i later fitted a new genuine volvo one though to cover myself and to see if it relates to the code PWM9101-05 but no luck.

The machine will occasionally run fine for hours but when you shut down and start again it will come up and put the machine into limp mode with slow hydraulics.

Also when i flick the manual override i get a V-ECM fault is this normal when engaging this mode? If not then it may be a problem with the V-ECM.

Also the machine seems to track quite slowly as well when running normally and not in limp mode.

Thanks

All sorted.

Went to bypass the wires from the proportional valve to the V-ECU and it didn't work. When i went to resolder the original wires back together one of the terminals going to the ECU clip just pulled out.

Put it back together and all good so far.

You need a Volvo guy......and this forum has several good ones. Post your machine serial number cause that is the first thing they will ask for!

Good day James
I suggest you check out the limp home switch SW9103 before you condem the ECU, could have a loose connection.
Kind regards

First thing first. When you first get in after your fluid check, turn the key to the run position. Give the ECUs time to boot up. You'll see the display fire up some image prior to showing your gauge display. Now, using your keypad , scroll down to service. Press and hold the enter key, the display will advise, entering service mode. From here you can see what your VECU sees. You can monitor pilot pressure and implement pressure to every function. The first thing I would do is stall the tracks. A steel pin between the sprocket and frame or a large impact socket, whatever you have that will jam the sprocket. Check your pressure to each drive. Then check pump pressure for each function. Write everything down for reference. Be mindful boom up uses both pumps, arm in does as well when used quickly. When your machine behaves slowly, compare these values against what you have when it acts up. Sometimes you'll see a value drop off or comes up as dashes. This may help narrow your search. I'm leaning toward a pump pressure sensor. All the sensors look alike, some are for pilot. Some are pump, make sure you get the right replacement. Good luck.
You will also see the mA for your PWM 9101, your error indicates voltage high or open circuit. I would perform a "tug test" on each wire to that connection. Just tug on the wire with about 10 pounds of force. If the wire gets longer, its broke inside. Deutsch terminals are notorious for pinching the wire at the breach insulator.

HI,

Thanks for all the advice especially the part about using the service mode to monitor the V-ECU, very helpful.

Will update

Thanks
