Bobcat E85 and T76 looking for attachment recommendations

I am knocking down some trees and roughing in gravel roads with em.

On the T76 the bradco land sculpter looks pretty good for leveling stuff out, MUCH cheaper than a grader setup. I know I can do a lot with just the bucket but trying to make life easier. I also want a root grapple.

The E85 I want a wide angle bucket to do the banks on the side of the road and a Ripper to do tree stumps and such. It has the X-change 55mm pins I think.

Just looking for opinions on best attachments for my goals. Brands and paces to buy em. I'm in NC.

As far as grapples, I have been happy with Virnig and Quick Attach brands. Tons of different options available at a wide price range. If your really going to work the attachment, I would opt to spend a little more than a little less. I have never seen much of a need for those land sculpter like attachments, I see landscape guys use them on occasion. If your skill level on running the CTL is average or higher, I don't think it is going to save you much over a well designed dirt bucket, my opinion of course. On the E85 stuff, I don't know if other OEMs can make that X change coupler or if that just comes only from BC. It might prove easier just to buy from BC, which is the idea I am sure if your BC. A thought on the ripper, I have found that just using a 1' bucket works very well for cutting roots. With a powerful machine like you have, even with the bucket full you can still pull through and snap roots and generate room to move the stump and you can of course use it to dig small width trenches where without any frost the ripper is a one trick pony.

I tried getting the ripper from BC and it was backordered into oblivion. I tried taking a stump out with the regular bucket and it was just so much dirt that got removed and had to be filled back in. But I think the real trick of the ripper is being able to slide in behind the stump and effectively pop it out of the ground, something I just couldn't do with the bucket. That stump humbled me fast.

Have you tried getting an X change bucket from anyone other than BC? I would be curious if that is an option or if BC has that tied up some how?

I’ve got a couple Eterra attachments from Skid Steer Solutions that came with the Bobcat x-change attachment. They hooked right up to my previous e42 and now my e50.

I actually work for an attachment manufacturer here in NC (Winston Salem). I can PM you my info if you would like to give me a call, if you'd like.

You don’t have to remove the dirt when stumping with the bucket. Break through the roots and simply leave the dirt in place. I like the idea of a 1’ bucket for stumps. We have 2 larger excavators and have 2 tine stumper attachments for both of them. It is a little faster and easier no doubt but we do larger tracts of land. Depending on the species and size of the stump they can be very difficult to remove. Idk how muchof a difference a ripper would make with a mini x. Just may not have enough Azz for the job lol. I also like the quick attach quick claw grapples. Very good product. I’ve seen Cal4 attachments brand grapple and it is very well built. Never owned one but I would like to. I believe they’re made in NC. Good luck

I'm building a root frost tooth for my exc. Thinking a sharp front edge will help in roots or maybe even a few sharp teeth just haven't got that far yet. My excavator has a hyd. pin grab so making attachment fit is fairly easy.

I’ve got one that I use. Have mixed feelings about it. It’s one dimensional. All you can do is rip roots. It doesn’t match up well with my thumb so it’s hard to do any fine pickup work with it. It’s pretty much useless for doing any fill work once you pull a stump. I find myself using my 24” bucket most of the time for grubbing and root work. It does work well on bigger stumps that are near the capacity of my machine and those with big spreading root systems. Also obviously good in frozen ground of other tough digging material. We have a lot of clay in this neck of the woods. Works good in that material. Mine is Bobcat brand. Has a replaceable tooth on it. A28ED902-5F2D-412D-855C-84E5171DEFEF.jpeg

I too am a fan of a 1' bucket for pulling stumps. Works well digging into frost when you have frost teeth on it and of course you can dig narrow trenches with it. Just get a lot more use out of it than a ripper tooth.

This is for the small yard jobs I get into. Any big job it's the 200 komatsu or a 973 cat loader job. Last big job had around 200 big stumps that had been logged. If it's doesn't cause a problem I've been digging the stump hole about 4 or 5 foot deeper and rolling the stump back in upside down. Gets rid of them and gives you more than enough fill to level out. It would be a mine field if you had to dig threw later.

As for a grapple/root rake I have had real good success with a Midsota Brush Grapple BG78. I am using it on a BC T770. It does a good job ripping out smaller stumps (less than 6" pine). I also use it for cleaning up left over slash from logging jobs. I have bent/broken 2 other (cheap) units but it has not bent. I added a cover in the middle and rerouted the hoses. but otherwise it has worked great.
