1979 model 580c was shifted from forward to reverse while going forward. Now don't move so well. I have been told rear end, axle, or transmission. If I were to start looking for problem where should I start first thanks in advance

@donnieqes Congratulations on your first post & commiserations as to the reason for it ....

Can you give us a little more description of what is happening when trying to drive?

Is is making noises? Crunching? Knocking?

If you raise the rear wheels off the ground & with the engine turned off, turn the rear wheels - by hand - a full rotation, is it a smooth turn or is there moments when the wheel seems to jump a little ...... like it could be missing a tooth or two??

If so drain the transaxle oil & remove the rear inspection cover & look for damage/teeth laying in the bottom.

If you do alrman's test and you do not find noise...
--Did you break the drive shaft? Look under the hoe and look for something hanging down.

I am assuming it is a shuttle transmission.
-- Lack of fluid? Check with it warm, 4th gear and shuttle in neutral
-- Does the fluid smell burnt? You can change the fluid... but the clutches are burnt
--Getting stray power to solenoid on the left side? With the hoe not running, have someone turn the key on and off while listening for a click from the solenoid. Fix the short?

One other thing to look at is shared bolts fly wheel to torque converter.

Sorry most of this is bad news...

What do you mean by "it don't move so well"? Is it slow in one direction or both directions, or does it not move at all?
