So we're all excited about seeing the prices we are today because they are less than last week?? I saw diesel today under $5 for the first time all summer. Less is always better, but fuel is no where near the price it was a year ago. That's the game, it's happened every time. Jack the prices up to exorbitant levels, then drop them a little to make us think we're getting a bargain. When I see gas at $2.35 I'll start celebrating.

No argument at all that this is the way the petroleum business ratchets up our fuel prices. It would be a major mistake to miss the hard fact that fuel is still 50% to 60% higher now than it was a year ago.

But I think there could be good reasons to celebrate the recent 20% drop in fuel prices if it continues to boost consumer confidence. See "Confidence jump will boost construction demand"

Stabilized and perhaps improving consumer confidence is particularly well-timed, according to this report on housing starts "U.S. Housing Indicators Move a Long Way In the Right Direction for Recovery"

I understand there's no concrete, more-money-in-your-pocket news here, but it's good to hear that some elements of the economy are turning encouraging.

Best,

Larry

I don't see the 20% drop you guys are talking about. Diesel was 4.97 now it is (well lowest I seen anyway) 4.59 yea big frikking whoop. This drop isn't going to stay dropped winter is comming on. Also .40 cent drop isn't even 10% let alone 20%. We get back down to $2 a gallon I might celebrate, till then there is nothing to celebrate. This is just a semi quasi feel good drop in fuel prices. Oil companies are great at getting those prices just as high as possable for as long as possable then give a slight drop and the idiots we are think yea feels good to only be paying..... Then the process starts all over again. So don't be fooled by a slight drop it will rise again.

Totally agree with the mind games the oil companies and big money traders are playing. It's all about raising the cost and then waiting until everything collates to the new cost of doing business. The only problem is fuel has increased the price of so many materials no one can afford to build anything.:beatsme I think the fuel prices have a long way to go, which is down before we see any significant economic changes.

On a side note I filled up last week at $4.69, today the same station had on-road for $4.39. $.30 in one week is a start, albiet a small one.

Manage and oversee daily operations, also process
Last weeks delivery we paid 4.69 for diesel and 3.99 for number 2. This week we paid 4.38 for diesel and 3.89 for number 2. Still about 4.65-4.99 at the pump for diesel though where we are.

we are down to a whole whopping 4.69 a gallon for diesel. I am sure it will go up with labor day and foliage season around the corner. After that it will drop for the winter and heating fuel will go up. Round and round we go , where we stop , only the oil companies where we will stop.

Unfortunately I don't think we will ever see 2.00 gal ever again.
