datsunman- Great JOB!!! I just bought one myself in hopes of putting it back to work soon. I passed this thing on my way home for the last 6 years and just finally got a chance to talk to the owner. I worked on it for a couple of hours and got it running and boy does it run great. My concerns are with the hydraulics since even when the engine is running nothing happens. Do the hydraulics only work if the clutch is engaged? It's currently stuck down but I assumed it has live hydraulics but I may be wrong.

I'm currently in search of 2 rims for the front drive tires. 7.50 x 16 is apparently obsolete and need to be custom made. I'm hoping to find a retrofit rim that doesn't require the lock ring.

Any info you can share would be greatly appreciated.

I have the exact same machine! It's in better shape but I am having trouble finding a rim for the front drive tire. It runs great but I'll have to check to see if the hydro reservoir is empty since the hydro system doesn't respond. I wonder if the clutch has to be engaged since it's currently stuck down.

Any ideas or sources for parts?

According to the info here: http://www.dozerpartswarehouse.com/page/420251932

I have a late 1966. Unit seems to work pretty well aside from the bent and leaking steering cylinder.
Luckily it appears that the part below is a near match, ordered one up tonight.

Thanks for posting this info. I just talked to Tom there and he's looking for the from 16" drive rims for me. Anyone else have any info on where to find replacement rimss for these? I'd rather do away with the split rim but I'll take what I can find.

Thanks in advance.

WOW. That thing is in amazing condition. Very nice.
I can't post pics yet because I'm new but I'll post what I have when I'm able.
Are the hydraulics live or are they only live when the clutch is engaged?

Great Job, datsunman! I have a H25. I just bought it but I can't even get it off the previous owner's property because the drive rim, 7.50 x 16 split rim, rusted though and split the rim into 2 halves.

Anyone have any idea as to where I can find one? I'm getting desperate.

Narrow 16" split rims aren't that rare on old pickups. I might have one around somewhere, you'd have to cut out the wheel center though. I think the last ones I rode on were on a Toyota highlux of all things.

I have a whole tractor available for parts sale. Are you still interested?

Great thread. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on the older machines. I am looking at a Hough HA that has been sitting for a number of years. The front brakes need to be replaced as well as the clutch. Has anyone tackled a clutch job on one of these? I feel like I can get the machine for $500 but want to touch base before buying an unfixable money pit.

hey, Charles. Not a lot of action on this thread in awhile. new hough Ha machine owner here as well, not sure where everyone goes for information on these, I have used this forum to identify and work on my machine. I am currently working on my brakes, trying to get the hydraulics working with some new parts. parts are very far and few between, you have to work to cross reference stuff. clutch doesn't look hard, but couldn't find a direct replacement- may have to get it rebuilt/relined by a shop as well as the brake shoes for the front..

Have you been able to get your brakes restored? I just went though mine and found that the wheel cylinders and shoes are from a 1947 Ford 1 ton truck. The shoes are 12 in x 1 ¾ in.

Blacksmith barn, I was just starting to write up some instructions for you to find this point and see you got there about half hour ago!

I did a lot of research to find out pretty much the same info. Got mine working pretty good! Ended up buying another machine that's a little newer, have to do the same to it as well, think the parts are the same. Nothing like having 2 machines to work on at the same time.

I sold my H25B 2 years ago and seem to remember it having what I thought was an auto dumping bucket.
Due to how the tilt cylinders are mounted on a linkage as you approach full lift height the bucket would dump unless curled all the way back if I remember correctly.
Today I was watching an old John Deere Crawler promotional video from 1959 and they said if the bucket is lowered, after dumping, from full height using only the boom the bucket will be at the ideal 5º digging angle when lowered.
I wonder if that's the point of the linkage on the H25 as well?
