My friends 200 Excavator has just started bypassing oil out the return line from the stick cylinder on top of the boom, even when the safety lever is in the raised-up position and nothing is supposed to operate.
Anyone know what valve is stuck on to bypass like this? No other function is being powered up when this happens. The machine has 8500 hours on it and just started to do this suddenly. The stick cylinder was removed from the top of the boom and repacked. It was then removed to re-test under pressure and passed. Oil still pours out the return line of this cylinder, even with the cab safety lever in the raised-up position.
Thanks in advanced for any input on what is happening.
Simon

It could be a broken O ring in the control block or a crook relief valve. They would have to pressure test that circuit to find where the problem is

We are going to cut open the hydraulic filter as he has just changed out the stick cylinder before this happened. Maybe some packing is in the system. I have a picture of the part of the valve that the return line attaches to but will need to find the reliefs after checking the filter.

The Main Tank Filter was cut open and found to be clean. The Monitor showed the pressure to make the arm swing out was way down. not to be forgotten is the fact that the machine has a very heavy twist bucket. Only that circuit had low pressure , About 2000 only. Followed the pipe back to the control valve and pulled the relief valve out from the 5 Spool control valve lined up with the pipe supplying the cylinder. Got a new condition used 200 HRS Relief Valve back into it and Problem fixed. Arm can hold straight out for 1 Hour with unit on with no drifting down. Simple fix in the end. Relief valve was taken apart and found nothing wrong but a John Deere dealer guy said you cant see it but changing them out often cures them.

Sorry i did not get back to you sooner. You have helped out a lot of folks around the whole world with technical Info. I would take the manuals on PDF For the 2008 John Deere 200DLC , Ser# FF200-DX511084 . This guy thought he was into thousands to get it going again. Question? Have you ever bought relief valves off the internet, from a non-oem. If you did who from and were they okay. Thanks for all your help. Simon
