One other thing I remember on the fill calibration for these is that sometimes they seem to work better if you set the engine rpm near the minimum required to do the calibration . Maybe nothing but worth a try.

Ya it says to set it at 1600 rpm so that's what I've been doing. I'm going back up there tomorrow to investigate the temperatures better.

I went and ran it for about 45 minutes on Tuesday. The engine temp gauge on the dash was reading dead center in the operating range, which apparently translates to about 110 degrees. Haha. I could not get it to warm up beyond that. I picked up a thermostat and coolant yesterday. Waiting on the mud to freeze back up now so I can get back to it.

Yes, sorry, forgot to mention that. That's how I came up with 110 degrees. I used a non contact thermometer gun and thats the warmest temp I could find. Farther back on the head it was checking at about 95 degrees

Went back to the machine today and replaced the thermostat. The old was stuck open just a shade. However it still won't warm up to operating temp. After replacing the thermostat the engine temp came up to about 130 but that's all the warmer I could get it. Beginning to think I'm going to have to build a winter front of some sort for it. It was 25 F when I was running it this morning.

Did you notice if the vent valve item #4 was in place? It fits into the cylinder head and if it's missing, coolant will always circulate.
Also, some engines have a seal in the head that seals the thermostat in the area roughly where the #1 arrow is pointing. Make sure that this isn't missing.
