I purchased a used Generac 50KW 3 phase generator from auction.
Cant find any information or manuals online or from Generac due to its age.
If anyone has any manuals for legacy units please let me know.
Model# 98A 05337-S
Serial# 2044040
It has the Generac/Hino 4.0 liter diesel engine.
Problem I have right now is it will not continue to run after it starts. Starts, but then shuts down.
None of the gauges are working. Only light on the control panel that is on is a red light in the upper left of the panel that warns the generator is not in auto mode. Wires to fuel tank are disconnected.
Any help appreciated.

JTWat,

Sounds like your new used genny isn’t making any watts. Two things come to mind;
1. The gauges don’t work
2. Engine dies when you let off the run switch

That tells me the shut-down system is inoperative. Check the easy stuff. Fuses, connections, engine oil level, coolant level and the engine oil pressure switch. Soon you will discover why the previous owner disposed of it. Or, maybe you will get lucky and it will be a gem.

Thanks,
It was city owned. 350 Hrs. Found a blown fuse on control panel but changing it did not change anything.

Ok, sounds like it must have been a backup unit with such low hours. After checking the easy stuff, I would focus on trying to figure out the panel.

I get a charge out of these electrical threads.

Can you post photos of the panel and control system. That is an industrial unit and big G likes to keep the info to themselves, and when it is that old it is ancient history to them also. But they have enough commonality with the commercial stuff that we can usually figure it out.

I found the problem!
Maybe. Probably not. Clean that rusty terminal on the low oil pressure shutdown Hobbs switch at the oil filter housing.

Good your so sure,lol.
I tested the switch and it does work.
Do those safety switches need to see a ground or visa versa? Not tested the ones in the cooler system.

I wanted to see the control system rather than the engine, an engine is just an engine.

Wire numbers 85, 86 etc. are ground to activate shutdown switches such as low oil pressure, high water temp, etc. You should see 5-14 volts DC on them when in a normal condition and when they ground out of course you will see 0 volts. If you suspect a bad switch just disconnect the wire from said switch and try again.

There might be some other wires with higher numbers on them probably for gauge senders which are not connected to any shutdown system, just for a gauge only.

That is a common C-panel control system. You need manual 079247. You will probably have to poke at it for a while to figure out what exactly is wrong with it.

Any idea where I can find that manual? Have looked on internet and can't find any information on this gen set.
Generac says they have no documentation due to age. A couple other Industrial generator service companies I've called said they would look to see if they have anything but so far nothing.
