I replaced a switch. Engine is spinning over using the ground controls, but not starting.
I want to check parts in the distributor.
The rotor button is stuck. Any suggestions of removing it without damaging it?
I expect all the parts inside the distributor need a good cleaning/sanding.

try two flat bladed screw drivers, prying on the base of the rotor, as close as possible to the distributor shaft.

A good way to check the operation of your distributor points without taking anything apart, is to put a voltmeter on the negative side of the coil and ground. As the engine cranks over, you should see a rising/falling voltage reading 0 - 6 - 0 - 6 - 0 - 6 approx. If you don't, the points are bad.

The engine will run for a few seconds when i squirt fuel into the carb..I poured 5 gallons into the tank.
Looks like a new fuel pump is in my future.

I saw that as well on the tms site. I was just shocked on the $430 price tag. I believe i have the Bertea valves from this forum since I have the manual lowering valves on the front of the machine

Yup, PQ controllers alright. Nice looking machine.
But all have the manual decent valves on the front of the chassis. Bertea has a set of manual knobs right on the valve body. The others do not. Racine valves are far more common, specially with PQ controllers.
On the side of engine where the oil filter is, look to your left and down below the frame rail. There is a large, 3 section valve body down there. In the parts manual, section 2, page 2-57, is a picture of the two brands of valve bodies. #27 is Racine, #32 is Bertea. Use that picture to determine which valves you have.

check that micro switch. I believe it turns power to the controller card on when the handle is moved off center.

So today found out I have the Racine valves which puts me at getting PQ controller found a part number through the PDF you sent me. 1600036 seem to range from 300-600 bucks..funny thing I plugged the bad controller in today just to do some more testing and when the controller is plugged in, nothing on the basket works. Only the horn, no deadman either. Unplugged the controller and everything works so leads me to believe I need to order a new one from somewhere

My running issue is the fuel pump.
I purchased a couple of 12v pumps. The lift runs again.
However, one of the 12v pumps quit on the first day.
I am already using the other. They look identical.
What pump, and source is recommended?
I want it to be dependable, 12v or mechanical, either is ok.

Well on that thing you don't need a fuel pump made for a race car. Too much pressure will cause flooding. I've used NAPA products professionally for over 40 years. I trust them.
This would be my choice for a JLG 40F,
NWM

In my NAPA Canada system, it is FPN B0141E, hopefully that number translates to NAPA USA.
