Hey guys, first time posting here, any help would be appreciated.
Parked the 953 Cat Loader after using it for half an hour and went back a few days to start it and it won’t start. Diesel is getting to the engine, will crank and turn over but just will not start (will smoke a little but not start). Cleaned out fuel lines to make sure no water in fuel, cleaned all filters, so I’m thinking it’s some sort of electrical issue. Anybody point me in direction of what to try or test out next?

Serial number? If it’s a mechanical fuel shutoff is it on fully? Fuel clear with no bubbles? Cranking good and fast. Not weak batteries?

Try and prime your fuel system to check for air leaks, should get firm within a couple plunges.. If the 953 is like my 973c there should be a filter housing that has your fuel filter on the starter side of the engine behind the one battery. There will be a plug that you can loosen and pump the primer if you have air.

That machine should have a fuel shutoff solenoid on the injection pump .
Look for a wire going to the injection pump.
Loosen a fuel line on the pump and crank motor to see if pump is pumping .

No air in fuel line and checked the wire going to fuel solenoid and it’s pumping, still not starting

Charge the batteries and put it to full throttle and try to start it. If it starts lower to a little higher than normal idle(1000 RPM) to let it warm up. If it doesn't start after about 10 seconds cranking, give it a 1 second shot of ether in the air intake while it's cranking. You can look into if it has a factory ether system later. You're getting smoke which indicates it's getting fuel but does appear to be cranking a little slow. I'd guess a tiny shot of ether and it will be up and running. If it fires on the ether but quits again you can give it another small shot. A couple tiny shots of ether won't hurt anything.

try pumping the hand primer at the same time crank engine I have had supply pump go bad and do this. I don't believe a 20z has a fuel sol. only Bs and Cs with 3116 had that
