Hello currently looking for a used 200 ish size excavator for our farm and the odd job nearby. I have come across a used 1999 hitachi Ex 230lc-5 with 8500 hours 2 buckets thumb and guarding. My understanding is that this machine has a hino H07CTD diesel in it. Are they good motors? All my friends Ex model hitachi's have the isuzu motors and seem to be very good motors with lots more hours on them and still running strong. Is there any thing major for me to look at for that era machine besides the basics? Also would anyone know the tier level for emissions. The seller seems to not be of much help and i would like to know alittle more about the machine before i make a trip out to take alook. Thanks

Yes, the EX230-5 has the Hino engine in it and they seem to be a very good engine. This vintage machine is well before any tier level emissions. I'm pretty sure it would be the same going each way but when we import machines from BC they have to have the correct EPA emissions sticker on the valve cover.
