I cant post a new thread and have a question about the seal on the turn table. Apparently we greased to much and broke the seal and it started to rip off. Anyone know what will happen? is this real bad or not a big deal?

Your right about greasing the thing too much. You can usually just work the rubber back in with a screwdriver. If you don't get it back in it's not a real big deal.

There was an 12 inch section that was hanging and we just ended up cutting it off. I called my dealer and they said they hadnt ever heard of that before. so I just want to make sure its not going to mess up the machine if I dont get it replaced. It happened on a 2004 160 we have. I try to take good care of all my stuff.

Apart from letting dirt , dust and water into the bearing which will turn to grinding paste when mixed with grease it will not hold back the grease properly and allow it to be squeezed out by the balls .

Iron Horse,
The seal in question is between the two sections of the Rotec bearing. The only way dirt is going to get into it is having the machine walk through a river with debris flowing into the floor of the cab. The only way to replace the whole seal is to split the house from the carbody and pull the balls from the bearing and then pull the two halves to replace the seal. I can't think of anyone who would go to that trouble and expense when they can just poke the piece back in with a screwdriver and put grease in the bearing a little more often than recommended.

MDD,
Your problem is very common on logging machines.
The usual interval for greasing the bearing is weekly and then only a couple of pumps with the grease gun and swing the machine a couple of turns each way to distribute. Now maybe do it twice a week. With the rubber gone in one place I would make sure that the fittings are turned away from that place when you add the grease and then swing through it to push out any debris that might get in there. I really doubt you will find any problems.

Good Luck!

If it is the outer seal you can replace the seal. You have to steam clean the seal area good and clean out the groove the seal sets in with brake clean. There is a special glue to install the seal. Then you put the glue in about a 12 inch strip of the groove and the install about 15 inches of seal and let it set up for a minute, then pull the seal out to the glue line and repeat. If you dont install more seal than glue length it will glue the seal at the angle it is hang out and then you have dips in the seal every were you stopped. Ask your local dealer for the seal if he cant get it I can get you the part number and the locktite number for the glue at work.

Yeap your right on!

It's happened on mine several times, I just shut the machine down and get a flat screwdriver to push it back it. You may have to pull it alittle so that it stretches all the way back around. Then just spin the machine around some until you get it all back on. The first time you'll get nice and greasy, from then on it'll get easy and you'll be cleaner when your done:D.

Thanks guys. We cut a section off already so I guess putting it back in with a screw driver, wont work for me. But all this info really helps.

Goose, Im gonna mention that to my dealer and see what they say. I will prob. need that part number since they dont know much about this problem to begin with. If you get a chance and have nothing better to do, I would appreciate it for sure..

John C ,

Poke what back in with a screwdriver ? He has already said that he has cut 12 inches of it off . How on earth would you get that to stay in ? Not a big deal if you do'nt get it back in ???
