I was wondering what is available for a timed shutdown and start for a light tower / genset? Im setting up a sectional barge for a lake job and it would be nice to have the heat on in the container to dry our gear out . It would save burning some diesel .PA232022.JPG

It could be rigged up if the tower has a 2 wire start. Can wire up something like a battery operated heater thermostat. Anything with a timer and the ability to close a set of contacts.

Without the 2 wire start circuit, it would be a lot more work to wire it for a timed remote start, but could most likely be done.

I put a geset o a 4600 dragline. The genset needs a 2 chanel controller as it needs to run glow plugs before going into start. The guy that does the electrical work found someone who makes a chanel remote start. I will see if I can find out where it came from.
It may take a few days.

We'd converted an older manual Perkins unit to full auto standby (glow plug cycle and all) with a Deep Sea 3110, some additional relays and some CTs. Quick check and the DSE3110 is under $200 pretty much anywhere.

Without the 2 wire start you're probably looking at building a box with a controller (gen specific or vehicle style remote start), timer, relays and landing some wires (glow, start, fuel, voltage sense). Depends on how much work you want to put in and if it's worth it for the end result.
