Even insured I don't think there'd be enough money to replace it. What engine is in it?

As per T/A rules the car has a small block (67 289) but its far from stock.Comp cams hyd roller cam and valve train,1.9 and 1.6 valves.Lots of good parts in it.I have the correct valve covers and Aviaid oil pan..Its fun to drive and gets lots of attention. It's loud with the side exit exhaust...

Got the A/C finished and all charged up today...I will put the truck back on the road in the next few days...
I originally painted the a/c cover satin black but I couldn't get it to stick.I tried 3 times and with in a few days it was bubbling off.Yesterday I took my d/a sander to it and stripped it..Now its aged faded white and I kinda like it...
Truck needs a very good cleaning. Its covered in pollen and cob webs...Grizzly 002 (170).JPG

Looking good Will...Looks like mine but doesn't...I find it interesting that the engine is Cummins beige. The direct drive fan is interesting as well.I wonder if that engine was purchased from Cummins...
I see studs welded to the frame for the looms...We did that at Pacific a few years after I started.Looks like a few bolts snapped off getting the piano hinge off..Mine snapped 5 or so..
Is that POR 15 black you are useing

That is POR 15 black, semi gloss top coat.

I think there are around 5 bolts snapped along the piano hinge on mine too. Rather than fight to get them out I think I’ll use them as dowel pins to line the hood up then just drill/tap replacements .
The radiator and front axle overhauls are done, I’ll pick them both up on Tuesday along with some new air bags for the front then I’ll be ready to start reassembling.

I managed to repair all but one of them...Has to be close to a dozen bolts.Mine were 5/16 nc and I re tapped all the holes and used stainless bolts with never seize..
Does the engine need a rebuild.?? Or are you just going to tear it down and have a look as its been sitting out side in the weather for along time...
Nice to see another one being rebuilt...In a tent no less
Cheers

I don’t think the engine necessarily needs to be rebuilt, it starts and runs great. It pushes the typical older Cummins blue smoke when its cold but it clears out pretty quick.
My desire though is to have the truck as close to new as possible by the time I’m done with it (budget permitting!).
The short term goal is to get the mandatory items fixed so I can try and get it on the road next spring, then I’ll address engine/transmission/transfer case overhauls after that.

Fired the truck up today and pulled it out into the sun..Figured I would measure the cable I need for the e-brake.I have never been happy with the approach angle of the cable..Routing was a issue.Mounting bracket cant be rotated. Its a lanyard cable and I would like to keep it simple..I have dicked with it a few times and never come up with a solution.Today I took it off again and rotated the caliper, drilled new holes and welded a new mount on it...approach angle is ok now....

Original angle in first pic.....Trimmed off excess f/bar after I fit the caliper to it..

Truck is back on its own feet. I got the front axle and new front air bags installed today.
I'll get the last brake line made tomorrow and put the front drive shaft back on then it's time to start changing heater hoses, power steering hoses, and making up new braided stainless lines for the front air bags.

Very nice....I like the airbag mounting system on the later trucks much more than mine.Your bag is much closer to the center line of the axel and the bag pressure doesn't change the caster as quickly as mine does.

Finished off what i think is one of the last mechanical jobs on the truck..E-brake is all done now except for a clamp on the cable and some fine adjustment..Will drive the truck first to see if the caliper position is ok.Fire extinguisher barely snuck back in there..

I got the steering stabilizer back on yesterday. I was going to put a Rancho double stabilizer on it but with the air bag leveling rod attaching to the front axle, there wasn't room for the brackets. Instead I cleaned up and painted the old brackets and stuck with one damper.
I'm 20201206_134054.jpg 20201206_134101.jpg trying to get as much done on it outside as I can while the warm weather is holding!

Thank you, it’s certainly coming along.
I’m just waiting for a new winch control module from Warn then I’ll be able to get the front bumper put back on.
As long as the good weather keeps holding I’m hoping to start replacing the wiring harnesses for the headlights and start cleaning up the rest of the wiring under the hood next.
