Hello,
Just picked up a 941b Cat. Machine has seen some use. Undercarriage is worn but usable. Where would I find a manual on it so I can see what services need to be done, fluids etc . Also the bucket tilt control is backwards. I thought maybe someone put something together wrong but the plate shows its
Correct. Having a hard time adapting. Anyway I can switch it ?

Also one of the bucket tilt cylinders is leaking. How hard of a job to repack it ? I did boom cylinders in Komatsu PC220 years ago and we could not get the nut off the ram. Had to bring it to HO Penn and they put it on a huge machine that hydraulic clamped the nut and spun it off

Hi,

If you can find the serial number then post it here , then it will be helpful for someone who can help you.

Try E-bay for locating a manual. Re the bucket control, the Cat track loaders are backwards to what may seem logical; pull back to dump. If yours is that way, give it some time & it will become natural after while.

Yes S/N is about the most important thing when looking for information on a Cat. If you find one on the machine look on the engine to see if there is one there too. I'd be looking at the left side near the back of the block just a bit under the head.

With S/N I or someone else can get you the basic stuff to get you started.

Does your your bucket dump when you push it forward. If it does then it's right I did my rams last year. Took the head and rod out of the cylinder. Put rod end in the hole at the back of the machine. put a pin in the hole I used a pipe wrench on it. Not the best thing to use. But if it fits tight and doesn't booger the nut Then I get a 10 foot pipe and put it on the pipe wrench. Then I just hung on it and the nut came loose. Just reversed it to tighten Then I file any burrs one the nut. Did all four cylinders. no leaks

There will probably be Operation & Maintenance (O&M) and Service Manuals out there but to help you track down the right one for your machine needs the S/No. Depending on that you might have the option of downloading a pdf Manual from Cat for around $50.

Well, now I have a problem then. The serial number tag is worn to the point where it is illegible. Any other way to identify the machine ?

Well if you have located where the tag "was" look real close as most of the time the numbers were also stamped in the casting or frame in the same area, sometimes under the point the tag was riveted or glued.

Not sure about 941B's but many Cat machines had tags on transmission cases that might give a hint as to what the machine is. Usually I seem to reacl they are near the cover on the top of the case, probably need to remove seat on a 941 to find that. Or post a few pictures with close-up of the engine might give a hint from the style of fuel injection pump.

The dump lever should dump when you pull it, so you can raise and dump with one hand. At leat every 941/951 I’ve been on was that way round.

If you carefully remove the rivet heads and take off the plate the S/N should be stamped on the frame right behind where the plate sits. Also possibly the back side of the plate might be easier to read than the front. Confirming the S/N might be important when it comes to getting hold of parts.
