One time I check all my oil levels my left final drive is low my right final is over full. then the other way around. then I get all levels correct, us the machine for an hour or two and both final drives are a little low and the transmission reads high. They seem to play musical chairs. All this is after a full service, all oil is new. just bought dozer, and was told it set for the most part for years. All the fluids looked good at time of change, and can find no pollution now. should I just run it? It is a 1970 model. I never let anything run low, but now transmission shows over full by about 1/4 inch, how much too full will hurt it. Why I say that is a cat man said it might be best to just run it, but that was before i find out about the musical chair like activity. What connection do the three have to cause this. Or do I have multiple problems?

Sounds like top pinion seals have to pull steering clutches and press pinion flanges. wile in there I would replace bevel gear bearings and steering clutch seals

All my leaks are internal, no leaks coming out of the dozer. outside is clean, how urgent? I know I keep adding questions, I don't know if I have the money to fix it the right way.

Running a little over full on bevel gear case won't hurt anything. I've read that on machines doing steep slopes it was recommended to run 10% over full.
That was to keep the trans from starving on steep slopes, dropping to neutral and having it roll away on you.
If the finals are swapping oil with trans you might want to make sure both have the same oil in them. Lots of the finals get 90wt put in them.

Under the rear of fuel tank, on one or the other steering clutch / brake covers is a breather. Make sure it's clean. Usually, when the pinion seals go, the oil from trans / bevel gear goes TO the finals, and they are overfull...

Folks I really appreciate all the advice. This is a good machine, cranks soon as you hit starter, no ether. I hate to see it get ruined over a dang seal. Both breathers are new, the old ones were plastic, replaced all. I have 50 weight in the finals, and have added Lucas oil stabilizer, may have been a bad idea. It has 30 weight in the trans.

Hey guys,
I’m working on a d7H dozer. I had to pull out the steering, ripper, tilt and blade lift valves out due to a broken bolt going down all the manifolds causing a leak. Hoses are all back in the right position, hydro level where it should be and I’m using the right weight. I have dozer tilt but dozer won’t lift and I don’t have steering. Tried to bleed air out of the system for awhile today and still nothing. Anyideas?
Thank you.

Didn't put a cap on a suction line or post did you? Not that I ever did that at least not that I'll admit today!

Then again if the tilt works but not the lift that would probably not be the case as they use the same oil and pump right?
