Liebherr 622 Joystick Repair needed

I have a Liebherr 622 track loader that moves forward and side to side but does not move in reverse position. My mechanic diagnosed it to the rear potentiometer not responding on the joystick. The joystick has four potentiometers for forward, left, right and reverse. The bottom of the joystick is sealed with epoxy. Liebherr only wants $9000 for a re-manufactured unit. This is a farm and ranch machine and is not used for construction to be able to recoup that expense. It's too good of a machine to scrap but to spend $9000 on a joystick just to get it moving again seems rather high.

Does any one know of a third party repair facility that will rebuild this joystick at a reasonable amount of money?

I can suggest a few things to try:

1. Try Alaskan Equipment in Edmonton, Alberta. They have a 1989 Liebherr 641 crawler loader they are parting out that might have the same joystick. I've been dreaming about getting a crawler loader for a long time and I only noticed that one because it was a "cheap" orphan. They finally gave up trying to sell it as a machine and are parting it out.

2. If you want to try going a little off the "identical spares" route, if you can identify what the joystick has internally, (usually a couple of potentiometers and maybe a microswitch or two), you can buy a "general purpose" joystick off of an electronics supplier like Digi-Key Electronics or the like. These potentiometers can range from a few dollars to $1,000 depending on how "industrial" they are. You might have to find a electronics geek-type contact who can help you sort out the exact specs you need in the potentiometers and what the microswitches need to do. Some of this information may be in the parts or service manuals. A few hundred $ given to an electronics controls place to sort out your joystick and help you get what you need is still cheap.

3. There is a gentleman on this forum who seems to fix mobile equipment electronics. I cannot remember his name but he occasionally posts looking for service/setup information on specific electronic controllers which helps with his repair efforts. Maybe others will know who he is and get the info to you.

Jon.
