Looks good mate!
How is the economy holding up over there?

We have been on lockdown since March 25th, it seems to be working to slow this virus. Lockdown includes logging in NZ. Pulp mills are still working and log ships are still loading but actual logging is not classed as essential here. So when we get back to it we should be pumping as the log stocks will be gone.

Not sure how it will all look for the overall economy and the next year. Not good for the tourism industry that's for sure

This really has a damper on our plans. I was supposed to fly over there this month to meet up with Dale and Hayden from DC and go take the tour of the islands. I was talking with Dale about building me a new yarder and I'm not sure where we stand with all of that now as everything has come to a standstill here. We are classified as essential but all of the Mills are full with finished product so they do not want any more logs.

Yeah mate it is crazy times. I like to head to the States and bc a couple of times a year, never imagined that I wouldn't be able to jump on a plane and head up there.
Dale and Hayden are good guys. They were a week out from finishing a winch assist for me when things shutdown.Screenshot_20200331-121534_Office.jpg

Looks great!
Here is my Falcon.View attachment 214821
I went with a used zx400-5 no substitute for horsepower plus I'm a tight b*****d and didn't want to spend new money. I have one setup on a 330b cat also. Tell Dale and Hayden to bring you up this way when you make it down. I'm a professional beer drinker with a logging habit we can go to the pub

A 400 will work very well!! I love the Falcon over the other brands having owned a Summit Freight system prior, it's all DC from here on out!
I look forward to catching up when I make it there.

I was thumbing through some of my old publications when I ran across this photo. the photo is part of a series taken at Reid Timber, Shoal Cove Alaska. Findley Hays took them for his booklet Contract Logger 1972. I have never seen such a "modern" sled rig. I was used to the donkey puncher standing on the running boards under a tin shed roof. All you Madill folks; did Madill do many of these? it looks like an 009 winch set, but I am not sure. Here it is sitting on a road, but in another photo that is less detailed, it is building a cold deck.
Hard to imagine, I bought the publication new in late '72 and still have it. Sometimes I wonder what I will do with all my books and publications. (Or my survivors...)Madill 1972.png

Publications etc - if the relatives have no interest - check out logging museums or various archives or collections/ libraries.
