My hoe sat idle today. #1 son had the obsessions I had 30 years ago. He had to own a low budget hoe. His as of today, a Case 580B. It needs tires, several cylinders resealed. All new filters & oils. Loader bucket needs a cut apart & rebuild, hoe hum, been there done that. It has a new seat!

I'm sure it goes back to childhood memories I spent countless hours chasing my grandpa around the farm and learning about equipment. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to buy one of everything. I got the hoe (my grandpa's old 310A), a bobcat and a dump truck. Now for a dozer, excavator, farm tractor, etc etc

I just got done doing a pad for my new shop. Dug out all the topsoil and replaced it with clay.

When the BIG dozer was making short work of my couple of acres of stumps a few seasons back, he 'popped' a boulder out of the ground and asked me what I wanted him to do with it....
I looked around and said stick it over there, off to the side. Well, that side became the driveway site,..... and now this is front and center.IMG_20200501_114421.jpg

Hat for scale.
We have named this one.... "Wilson"..... and yes, he has a living hairpiece.

Might have to grab some burnt branch from the brush pile and 'paint some eyes....??
The bottom will be dressed with a mulched bed at some point in the future, but for now this is it.

...stick it over there...! That's a big one! Man, so many good rocks! I love the idea of putting a face on it! Are you going to leave it where it is or do you need to move it for the driveway?

I'm potentially kind of serious, now, about if you ever want to get rid of rocks... I can't imagine, with as much space as you have, that you mind them, but I could use just about every rock in your pictures. Let me know if you want to sell them for cheap or something and I'd have to do some math to determine how worth it it would be, but your rocks are beautiful!

My father never had access to a big machine. He grew up in an era when you moved it by hand, or lived with it. Although he ran a D7 for a few years, it was 30 miles away, belonged to someone not receptive to loaning. In 1952 even transporting a D7 was not simple.

He'd dig under it mid section, enough room for a nice fire. 5 or 6 hours it'd be in pieces small enough for a man to lift.
If it isn't in the way, it becomes a loading dock, or south facing, it'd be a perfect place to start the posies.

I put in the driveway with the rock in mind.... swings right by it.
Had to dance around a few others too. Lucky so far in that none have stopped anything yet.

These two have found a home. The one on the right can be pushed.... but the other can only be moved by pulling on the sides and 'walking' it back and forth. That one was buried in the driveway to the barnsite ( where my camper is)
Truthfully..I wouldn't want to even try to load these on a trailer..??

I'd hate to show you what I have already dumped over the sidehill off the driveway. These are here 'cause I can't move them too easy.

Speaking of my old backhoe, I busted out the ol 310A after 6 months of winter hibernation.

A quick check of everything, a good greasing and out the back 40 to dig up a rock.

Since I forgot my chains, and the rock is too big for me to just scoop up, it got scooted off to the nearest rock pile. It now rests on top of the pile that is between those trees.

Dug a ditch about 600ft long around trees to get water that would flood my property for months away. Pick up trees and drop them in our garden over the 8’ fence to make raised beds. Pick up chicken coup and move it to burn pit. Drove a few miles away to a friends house to help him get a dump truck unstuck. Then spread the Millings the truck was dropping off. Dug up some trees and transplanted them.

Still need to rebuild my barn, and finish my pond. Uses are pretty amazing.

Folks what kinda rocks are in the area you live. In my living area there are mostly argolite, n sand stone. Argolite is very hard to brake, more easier to dismantle the hill.

Ehh more like barbaque chicken feces. Basically run far far away :O

I got no rocks... jealous of all the huge boulders I would gladly take for my pond! I actually picked up 6 trailer loads last year and man that was a pain. Hauling those things is no joke! 2 trips 1:30 mins away. 6 trailers full, and I still could use way more. I suppose I wouldn’t have dug a pond if my yard was full of boulders though.

Mighty, that's my use as well. I have a neighbor property that is likely about 15 acres and it was just overgrowth, for the past 2 weeks they've been ripping out all the growth and trees and exposed a barn and a house back there. The family and I trespassed a bit to explore and found a lot of good stones and the old barn has enormous beams in it that'd I'd love to have. Well, yesterday I stopped by to see what the chances are of me harvesting stuff from the property since they plan to farm it. The guy I talked to, running a bulldozer, has to ask the boss. We'll see. I could use as many basketball to vw beetle sized rocks as I can imagine...
