We just picked up a new Holland l554 skid. It's in great shape and was too good to pass up, except it's missing it's engine. From what ive found it had a Continental tm30 inline 3 gas engine. We're looking for engine options, does anyone know where to get the original engine? Or if not, does anyone know a good cost effective engine to swap in. It look like the l555s were diesels but I don't know what engine they ran, and I don't know if there were differences in engine mounting. Any help would be appreciated

Don't appear to be many TM20/TMD20's floating around. I found a used TMD20 in Michigan for $1850 + $500 core charge and no starter. I'd look for an old Case 1835C donor.

I'm no expert on these, but looking at the parts book it seems that the L553 thru L555 are the same basic machine with differences for the engine used. The L555 was available with a Perkins 4.108 or Kubota V1902-B. The L553 only came with the Kobota. The Deere 675 and 675B skid loaders also appear to be rebadged clones and they used a Yanmar 1.8L 4TN82E-SP diesels. (4TNV88 is listed as a modern replacement)

The TM 27 and TMD 27 are 4 cylinder versions of the TM20/TMD20 engine family and are supposedly more common. If a 4 cylinder Perkins or Kubota fits there's a good chance this will as well.

Have fun,
ISZ
