hi guys
can anybody help me, i have a jcb loadall 570/30. 2001
it runs ok in 1st and 3rd gears but only runs in 2nd and 4th when it is warm (after a couple of miles down the road)
it will move in 2nd and 4th in reverse. got underneath to check the solenoids and wiring, but they are almost impossible to access, is there an easier way?
cheers spike

Have the same model machine with a similar fault that I need to look into - intermittent 2nd and 4th only in forwards.

Can't remember the term for them but a 'pen' for checking solenoid coils is very helpful when dealing with issues like this, you get to find out which coils are/aren't active without removing anything. Should be easy to find on eBay etc. You should have two solenoids live whenever it's in gear.

If you have two solenoids live then take a clean (i.e perfectly clean) bucket and drop the transmission oil and inspect it for bit of clutch linings. You need a clean bucket or you'll not be able to see them, and with a clean bucket you can put the oil back in afterwards.

Ontop of the chassis under the boom there is a oval plate with two bolts in this is the only way to the top of the trans for solenoids .
check solenoids should have 2 energized to make it all work in each gear lay shaft or mainshaft and forward high or forward low or reverse high or reverse low.
check micro relays and fuses also wiring harness to transmission short bit of loom that goes from chassis to solenoids.

Electrical problem. Might be a sod to trace, but if you only have one solenoid live then that's why it's not working.

Check the relays in the dash by the door micro relays fail just for fun.
If you got a serial no i may be able to help with some pics of relays /wire numbers

well, what a carry on! went out this morning to put it back together and no power to end solenoid again!
changed wires over and power to a different solenoid, so whipped the end solenoid off and the cable connecter was cracked.
townson tractors in hellifield had one in stock so nipped over, bolted it back on and got everything back together for 8.30 pm!
everything working, thanks once again guys.
