Hello all,
I have just joined this forum and hoping some one can help me.
I bought a cat416b a few weeks ago and after using it I find that the swing hydraulics seem to be a bit slow.
The other day i tried lifting the rear end of the machine off the ground using the boom and bucket to walk it over a ditch and when raised (no problem) the swing hydraulics did not swing at all.
All other hydraulics operations seem to be working normal.
can any one point me in the right direction as to what is wrong.
There is no leaking of hydraulic oil at all.

Many thanks Rabet

If it were a bad relief cartridge, the problem would be in only one direction. Since both directions are off, then, as stated above, the cylinder piston seals are suspect.

Hi all and thanks for your replys,
When just testing it out, the swing seemed to be slow and I noticed that when approaching full swing the boom stopped of its own accord although the swing valve valve was still open. When it stopped the ram was not at max position, still some travel to go. So I then tried, without over reaching lifting rear end using boom and bucket, raising front bucket and then tried to swing backend of machine either way, just as you would ditch walk, but swing rams did not move.

I have a parts book, but does anyone know where to obtain copy of workshop manual??

any other idears

Your swing cylinders are plumbed together in a criss cross pattern. So when you are swinging oil from one cylinder is passing through to the other cylinder instead of returning to the tank and it is locking it up. It's kinda hard to explain without physically showing you what is happening. But it really sounds like you will need to repack the cylinders.
