So in my continued isolation I decided that should get out on the road with some my bicycle and get some miles in. It is a recumbent trike not a bike but if I call it a trike people get confused.
I have been getting out lately but not going to far, longest run was 30 before today.
So saddled up and away I went. I was feeling pretty pleased with myself, I was only 7 or 8 minuets longer on the first leg of my route then last summer.
Turned off the main highway, took the connector down to the secondary highway.
Needed a water stop and a snack so pulled over in the same place that I always did last summer. Nice rural spot, farms on both sides of the road, very pretty.
Grabbed my bag of tail mix and was just going to dive in when I hear a woman screaming at the top of her lungs.
Thinking WTF, I look over in the direction of the noise
Here comes this HUGE dog. HUGE, did I say HUGE.
Crap, drop the bag of trail mix back into my handle bar bag and start pedaling.
Now here is the fun part. I have electric assist on the trike. Hills suck, bad knees, don't judge me.
With the system I have I am able to adjust my power setting and max speed with the twist of a dial and the push of a button. The hubmotor will spin at 48 Km/h max. So had the power up to 800 watts, 48 Km/h max speed and spun that crank as fast as I could.
Happy to report that I outran the great big cyclist eating SOB.
I was reaching for my can of dog repellent spray but that is the absolute last resort, glad I didn't have to deploy it.
Got down the road, checked for anymore dogs, cats, chickens, ducks whatever and stopped. Got heart back into the safe zone and not up on the red line anymore, had my snack, drink of water, reset the power back to 80 watts and 32 Km/h max speed and enjoyed the rest of my ride. Got in 50 Km total.
Great day.
