The hose that connects the hydraulic pump to the flange on the frame (unpressured from the tank) is old, and leaking. It's been old an leaking for a while. So long in fact that the engine vibration seems to have caused the hose to vibrate on the aluminum flange, causing wear. This is just my very amateur interpretation, but the aluminum looks worn, in line with the jiggling motion of the hose.

The parts manual shows this as part # D129580. But parts search online doesn't show much luck, and this is just a straight rubber hose. I would like to go a bit longer than stock, so I can get past the worn aluminum anyway.

So what kind of hose should I be looking for? I need something that is compatible with hydraulic fluid, but is there anything else I should be concerned about?

Thanks in advance.

Hydraulic suction hose from any hydraulic shop. Suction hose will have a spiral wire to keep it from collapsing

riggerjack,
below is a link for suction hose. If you magnify it, you can see the 1 wire that spirals around inside the whole length. This hose is rated for suction only!

Lately, I have seen hose that is rated for suction (vacuum) and return (low pressure). It has wire braid like regular hydraulic hose, but is not rated for the high pressure like traditional pressure hose. I am placing a link below for that. I have not used this hose. I have only used the previous hose.

When I have used the dedicated suction hose, I like to use the t-bolt clamps shown in the link below. They seal nicely, but you need to get the correct size...no fudging like you can with a worm clamp, but better seal in my experience

Thanks guys! Just what I needed. I've used surplus center in the past with great results. One last question: How is this cut? Using a sawsall, or chop saw, or abrasive wheel?

I live on an island, and strongly prefer to start maintenance tasks with the parts in hand, rather than pulling pieces off, and taking them to a shop. Here in the Pacific North Wet, dry days are rare, the ones that coincide with days off are rarer still. I hate to waste any of them traveling to a shop.

Well..... if you take it off and take it to a decent shop you'll only have to do it once ;)

If you use an abrasive cutoff on it make very sure you get it cleaned out completely!!! before install.

You probably need to replace your front motor mount bushings while you have hyd. oil drained and pump off. The vibration is due to the hyd. oil causing the rubbers bushings to break up.

riggerjack, They sell many types of saws specifically designed to cut hydraulic hose. The one I posted a link to is only one of many designs. If you look closely at this saw, it looks just like a metal cutting chop saw. I own a metal cutting chop saw, so that is what I use. When I was on the road (past job) I would use a pneumatic cutoff wheel. I do not recommend this tool, but we didn't have any other tool that would do the job on our truck, and the boss wouldn't purchase on. In the end, it does cut the hose, however, the cuts are not as square as they really should be. I am sure you could cut the suction hose (single spiral wire) with a hacksaw or sawzall.

Whatever method you choose, as was stated above, clean thoroughly or you will contaminate your system...and you know what that will cause!!!
