Hi
Ok I am ready to attempt the removal of seal! Does the (looks like balancer) need to be removed? Someone said remove the seal then pull the shaft out of the xmission side? Palease shed something light. This is the 955l that I finally found the s/n number on last weekD7AFDB37-03AF-492E-915D-4FCBDA66F7B5.jpegEFC0F589-1BF4-4586-A024-AA7CFF434E68.jpeg

Well you could make it easier and post the s/n here, but I did some research and think I found it 85J07056.

Now I can try to find some more information on the seal.

Well that looks tricky!
flexible coupling.png

Still looking in SIS to see if there is any mention of that area. Anyone familiar with this machine? Is there enough room to get flange #5 out if you remove all the #6 bolts and the four joints #3?

Looking at the drawing maybe if you could slide flange #1 far enough into the converter case there may be just enough room to wiggle the #5 flange out and then slide the #1 flange off the shaft. If so then you might be able to remove the seal p/n 5S4408.

I believe also there is an alignment procedure for the two flanges that might need to be checked to be sure the new seal is not compromised, but I'm not seeing it right off. Need to do a little more research!

It appears there are a few different versions of this coupling that have been used in various machines. Attached is what I find on the alignment of the couplings:

EDIT...........................

The chart I originally posted was for a machine one S/N off, corrected and that is the one attached here! Still a little confused as in one place the 5S7891 coupling shows it being attached to the flywheel with six 2 inch bolts and in another it is shown with one large bolt and thick washer in the center. Guess only way to be sure is to look at the machine and see how it is assembled.

Ok
Sorry about the s/n. Will be working on this the next couple of days. I am a bit confused about the tolerances referenced? Do you have any info. About what the measurements should be? Thanks for your effort and please keep shedding light. Would you happen to know if I can get CDs rather than the book on this machine. Gretch

OK, this should explain how to use the spec's:

As for the CD's I would check with this site

https://www.servicemanualpro.com/

I might suggest contacting them to double check if the CD manual they list includes your S/N as all the other manuals appear to be for the 955K and the service manual just says 955 and I believe your machine is a 955L? Maybe I'm missing something here?

Remove the 4 pucks,16 bolts then remove the drive flange 4 bolts off of flywheel. The transmission flange will slide off allowing access to seal.
Looking at your pucks you don't need to worry about the alignment doraw.

Bob, glad you got in on this one as I would not have had a problem tackling it if I was there but not having had hands on of this machine I was not 100% sure.

OK Went easier than thought.. However the new seal went in easier than i think it should have?? Got it from Cat but seems as though it should have taken more tapping to seat it? Confusion on whether it is a "K" or an "L" ?? Something must be wrong. Gretch
