How to remove sun gear in final drive CAT 314C

Hi Guys,
I have a CAT 314C 2003 excavator and a hydraulic line burst while I was clearing land. I use this machine and an old 963 track loader to recover farm land.
The left track suddenly stopped moving and I saw a lot of hydraulic fluid leaning from under the area of the main control valve. I think the line that ruptured goes from the main control valve to the link in the center of the swing, then down to the left final drive. Not certain it is this line, but pretty sure it's one of the four that go to the left final drive.
Anyways, it's winter in western NY, so I decided to tow the excavator back to my shop rather than fix it in the mud.
I'm trying to remove the sun gears in both planitaries so I can tow the machine-- but maybe I'm approaching it wrong.

My first question is: if the only problem is with the left track hydraulic circuit, can I run the machine to use all the other circuits, including the right track-- or will the hydraulic oil somehow continue to leak out of the bad circuit even if I don't touch the left track cab control lever? If the machine won't leak more oil, I could have a friend in my 963 tow the 314 while I run the excavator using the right track for some propulsion and steering. Would this work or do I have to remove both sun gears from the planataries and tow the excavator as if it were dead?

Thanks in advance for the help.j
Bob

Hoses are pretty easy to replace. Why go to all the work of pulling covers and entailing all the trouble and risk of further problems by opening the finals up? You can plug hoses off to a track motor and use the boom as a crutch to lift the none working side and use the swing and other track function to move the machine.

Thanks, John
I have to move the machine about 1/2 mile-- just seemed easier to do the repair in my shop with our weather.
I should have asked on this forum before I got started-- I already have the plates off the left final drive-- can you tell me how to get the pressure off the sun gear so I can pull it out? Right now it seems really tight- with the brakes on one end of the shaft and the track on the other--
--Do I have to plug off the leaking hoses or their connections at the main valve-- or if i avoid using the left track circuit will the machine stop dumping oil?

You will have to relieve the tension on the track in order remove the gear. Plug off the leak and then you can pick up the track by pushing the bucket into the ground.

I would have (I did) plugged the failed side off and limped it back.
I'm not sure as to which was more fun, the 312B or the 330C.
Done it quite a few times, but the 2 above were in below freezing weather.
