OK- when buying trucks and such I always pass on the extended warranties. My Cat dealer is pitching one as the 2 year warranty on my 289D has expired. Of course the low level is powertrain, which covers engine, and a ton of transmission/axle things a CTL doesn't even have. To get real coverage there's powertrain/hydraulic. Pricing seems a little stout.

In the auto & RV world there are a host of 3rd party Companies out there that sell such things. Anyone do that for equipment?

Generally speaking, in automotive the 3rd party companies sell you the product and then disappear. Hence the recommendation to only go with manufacturer branded warranty. I'm sure anybody trying to do 3rd party warranty in equipment would be bankrupt in the first year.
