Got a new 3/8 Impact

My 3/8 Cornwell impact broke its air valve/trigger assembly last week. I could get parts but it would be about $50 or so to put into a nearly six year old impact. It also has a very touchy trigger that pretty much just goes straight to full bore to sling the tiny bolts you are removing into the belly pan and I’ve about had it with that “feature”.

So I chose to get an Aircat 1076-XL as a replacement. Arrived today, I will install the whip and get it greasy tomorrow. Very compact, and I’ve heard that they are pretty powerful. The body seems just slightly larger around than the Cornwell but the length is definitely a good bit shorter.

If you're using air, compact/stubby is the way to go. I'm still primarily battery, but bought an Astro Pneumatic 3/8" stubby impact that has been awesome in some cramped spots, and way more power than my old 3/8" IR ever had years ago.

This was my Christmas present:

It is about the size of my fist. They claim 250 ft/lbs. I have only used it once, on some Cat code 62 fittings on top of a boom. I couldn't break them with a 5/8 and 11/16 wrench locked together. I climbed down for the 2-mile tractor ride back to my truck for something longer, and just decided to take this along just to see what would happen (I didn't think it would fit, or have the power). It unscrewed 7 of the 8 bolts easily, and the one it didn't get took a 2 pound hammer on an 18" pull handle.

I was IMPRESSED!

I really don't use air tools anymore, except a 1" impact and air hammer.

I'm still waiting for my first gen 3/8" M12 Fuel impact to die so I can get that new one, but it just keeps chugging along and doing everything I need it to.

Same as you, only rarely go to air for 3/4" or 1", air hammers, and die grinders. And the long blow gun for knocking snow off equipment this time of year (as much fun as it is laying in a pool).

I’ve been impressed with every Milwaukee tool I’ve bought except the boroscope. It’s ok but not super clear. I’m think that one of my favorites is the fan. Makes those summer days a little more bearable.

As far as 3/8 air impacts go I’m still chugging along with my snap-on gun but have heard good things about the air cats.

good to hear you like yours!

I thought hard about one of those, and I know Milwaukee stuff is strong but I was worried the Milwaukee wouldn’t have the power the air gun does. I still plan to acquire one in the near future but I needed the air version first

I bought one for the pickup. It will break the lug nuts free (140 ft lbs) as well as running the camper jacks if needed. I find that it keeps finding its way into the shop instead of under the seat where it belongs. I am very happy with the performance and it is becoming a go to tool.

most all of our mechanics run the full size Aircat 1200K 1/2 impacts we find air cat tools in general to be very reliable and powerful.

I bought that Aircat impact about a year and a half ago, put a swivel on the inlet and love this gun over my old CP . Use this impact every day and like how it will get into tight spots. Got it off the Snap on truck for $175. new

I’m pulling an engine on a D6K2 which is the first time I’ve really been able to put it to work since getting it. A couple months ago I did the same job on an identical machine with my old gun before it laid down on me so it’s a good comparison. It definitely gets into some tighter spots and has been more controllable.

I converted to 20v Dewalt last summer from the old school 18v Dewalt. Picked up the 3/8 and high torque 1/2 inch impacts, as well as the 1/4 inch impact driver for small stuff. All three are damn impressive.

I bought the 20v dewalt 1/2" gun, and I guess I'm kind of disappointed. Its nice for a lot of things, but doesn't hit like my air gun. But I do have a big compressor set at pretty high pressure. There's no denying that its really handy over dragging out a air hose. But I was taking something apart the other day, and the cordless didn't budge it, and my air gun took it off.

A guy I was working with, said the milwaukee guns are much better than the dewalt guns, but I had dewalt batteries.

We have the Fuel 1/2". It is a beast, but I have had it stop short on 5/8" fasteners quite a few times. Sometimes the Aircat can get them, sometimes not. I'm thinking the 3/4" would be the ticket, but of course then we'd find that it couldn't get the occasional 7/8" bolt undone, so then we'd have to pony up the $1000 for a 1".

the current Milwaukee 3/4 gun is not much more powerful than the 1/2 it’s based on

the 1” Milwaukee that came out last year is the one I want to hear more about
