Ok, See you did move this question to "Wheel Loaders" and answered at least one of my questions but I will copy and past them all here:

What model is this machine? Might help with more ideas. "ANSWERED!"

Does it still seem to want to go forwards if in say first gear?

When put in reverse does it sound like it is under a load while trying to back up or does engine rev-up like it is in neutral?

Does this machine, as you gave no real info one has to guess, have a drive shaft between the converter and transmission?

If so does it spin when engine is running in neutral, in a forward gear or reverse?

Lots of things that might be able to tell if there in person but without asking lots of questions and getting good detailed answers it will be just a bunch of wild guesses!

sorry about that its a 175 clark Michigan not sure what series it is . it is real strong in forward all 4 gears. the drive shaft between the convertor and the trans spins all the time except when in forward. just no reverse there is 175 to 180 trans pressure thanks lee

Wish I still had access to Michigan service manuals, believe we had some of the 175's!

All I can say is that drive shaft should spin when in neutral but then stop pretty fast when shifted into any gears forward or reverse. Believe there is a valve on top of the transmission that has an air line from left brake valve connected to it that would put the transmission in neutral when you use the left brake. But that should not effect only reverse!

You mention 175 to 180 transmission pressure is this the same when shifting from forwards to reverse?

Just as a shot in the dark I might be tempted to remove transmission filter and cut it open to see if there is any clutch material in there, maybe stuff that looks like sand?

Any chance of a complete model number, if you sent it to me I did not see it.

Here is a link to a list of parts books that may be of help if we could figure out which one is for your machine:

https://www.minnpar.com/manuals4.asp?FName=MICHIGAN (VOLVO VME) MANUALS&SFName=WHEEL LOADER (MICHIGAN VME) MANUALS&SSFName=MICHIGAN (WHEEL LOADER) SERIES 175 PARTS MANUALS

Does anyone know if any of those online sites that claim to have "Free manuals" for download are real and safe? I'm a bit paranoid of just "registering with them!
