Getting kicked when you are down, but his is crazy. One problem usually leads to having another but you are way past that now. Hope it is just a cracked head a somewhat easy fix, and not so very expensive. If you own machines you know that their can be problems, drinking and screaming doesn't repair anything. Get them sorted out and fixed and back to work making money as soon as possible. Start using some of that good luck, you seem to have stored, because all you have been having is bad luck!

OK so no one else has said it, I will stick it out there. Ever think Someone in real charge is trying to tell you SLOW DOWN? Might just be a fluke but could be a warning shot across the bow. May want to have a discussion with him as to making with a little assistance.

Its going to be okay. We haven't touched a engine at my shop in probably 4-5 years, so I know it was due. Things always happen in 3's though, so I'm waiting for number 3:).

Someone in real charge is trying to tell you SLOW DOWN?
Well, so far the big man upstairs has been nothing but good to me. I've got a great wife, and 3 healthy and great kids. A roof over my head, a job I love, and pay my bills. Having a couple engines down isn't the end of the world, I try to keep things in perspective.

I did take a day last week and go look at this- a liebherr ltm 1120. Its a couple years older than my ltm1080. But its only 5 hours car drive away, and its in my price range. I really don't think I'm going to do it though, its got a couple issues, and I really don't have the manpower to run it. I really don't know if I would be so fired up to buy it, if my 100 ton wasn't down either. Its really like a 165 ton, 184' main, 69' jib and a insert for 92' of total jib, 77,000lbs counterweight.

Its really a little bit heavy to scale in missouri. I would have to do some playing around with the weights. Its only a single winch machine. The counterweights are kind of goofy, you have to mount and bolt the top weight, and redrop the tray and bottom weight to put all the counterweights on, which is a real pain.

It would gain me a little tip height, and the control system is all the same as my other liebherr. The two cranes would also be able to hook hydraulic systems to one another, so if either one went down, a set of jumper hoses or two and you could use the one crane to bring the boom out of the air on the other crane. Which would be really really nice if you had a hydraulic pump or engine failure with 250' of boom in the air.

The crane looked better in pictures than it did up close.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement also, the breakdowns are all part of the deal with equipment. The 70 ton I had some suspicions the last time I ran it by the looks of the dipstick. It had a trace of condensation built up at the top of the dipstick.

I had the guys drop the oil in it, and no antifreeze, so I thought it could just be from setting and the cold to hot weather we've been having. But evidently it was getting the oil warm enough to burn off any excess antifreeze so it wasn't in the bottom of the pan, or we were burning it off in the chamber. Either way, I've got a different motor, that ran when I bought it, supposedly a recent rebuild, we will see.

Not sure if I'm glad or happy to be a bit over 1,000 miles away! If I was too close I might be tempted to stop in and see if I could help!

1000 miles isn't that far of a drive, ya know. You could be there in 12 hours if ya wanted to. :)

Stay safe CraneOp, easy to get distracted when troubling things pass our way. Sounds like you've got the right attitude though. Like my grandpa told me, keep plugging along and doing what's right. It will all work out in the end.

New lightpoles at a new ballfield, this one is getting astroturfed in a month or so, only access was from the field so we wanted done first.

Galion walked across some plywood in a church yard, HVAC units were a little too far away, for anything I currently have running from the parking lot. So we needed to get a little closer.

I'm a idiot sometimes (well, a lot of the time- but don't tell anyone).

Got a new to us 40 ton grove a while back, and we have some of the issues sorted, so yesterday I pulled it outside and put it up on jacks, I haven't had time to even set the thing up to see how it runs/operates. So I ask one of the other guys, (they set it up earlier) where the swing brake is. He points to the pedal on the floor, it isn't a swing brake, its a 360 house lock. I tell him that isn't it, it should have a electric switch brake also.

Set the crane all up, and the boom is good, winch, outrigger controls are still messed up upstairs, but the worst thing is the swing. Rough, won't start and stop easy, swings worse than the mack/ national we have. I get out and mumble grumble kick around about it. Piece of junk crane etc. etc. The other guys are like "don't give up on it, its just probably something wrong".

Well the problem is operator error, I found the electric swing lock switch this morning, and with the swing brake switched off, the crane swings like a grove should, smooth and easy to control. I'm just dumb sometimes.

Tadano RT dumped off a trailer in Florida. According to the report, they had it on the trailer and the operator for some reason boomed it up to 45-55 degrees. Then it probably shifted on the 5th wheel, and right off the trailer it came.

What is wrong with these people, like they never ran one of these before, or maybe pushed a little too far and got away with often.

What would posses an operator to do anything without the trailer on the ground and air dumped is beyond me. Probably the driver that didn’t know any better.

RT’s are why I always had a 9’ or 10’ wide trailer. We moved so many short distances it wasn’t worth the time and effort to load em on a beam. Hauled every size there was on a deck up to and including 130 ton Terex and the big 9130 Grove.

That was plain and simple a colossal f**k up!

Little foggy here the other day, it usually clears up about 8-9:00, but this hung on to almost noon. New water tank up the hill from my shop. The tank builders crane was a little short for the next ring up. 20200113_074254.jpg 20200113_101028.jpg 20200113_101034.jpg 20200113_125314.jpg
