I found this picture on the internet and took a snapshot of it. It shows #H17 in front of Western Hayes parts in Port Alberni. I have a few quistions about this picture that I hope somebody on this thread can help with. I wonder if this was “just” a Hayes sales Office or did they have a shop there as well? In text to picture is Dave Forshner mentioned. Are there any relations between Dave Forshner and Forshner Bros. Trucking Ltd? Does anyone have a picture of the building/area when Hayes had 53087897-4F84-4529-B16A-410D1C99334C.pngit? Was there fence around? Lot of quistions but I am thinking of building a model of the building. Today it is a restaurant and I have had diner there several times. Great food.

Trevor Bennett Hauling from new school site in Langford (Westhills) Nov 28 2019 What are the chances of placing the camera in an active site on a tree branch and getting this, was only hoping to get the truck driving past not stopping in the perfect spot.

Hayes HDX owner unknown - log trailer got an I-beam reach - shared picture

That "'I-Beam" reach is same as ones used at BCFO Renfrew Div. the #204 , #205 and #206 HDX Hayes log trucks . Those were mid 1950's Log trucks . I wonder if those trucks came with steel reach's or wooden reach's ?

By the way - many of the M&B Mack CL350 used trailers with steel I-beam reach.

Jumping in a little late you guys but Hayes still offered the "I" beam reach right up till the end of production.. Was an option.. Some of you might not know it but even on the Highway boxed trailer reaches, They were built and installed opposite to every other reach on the market they were installed with the wider side up and down instead of laying flat the way the do on any other trailer. theory behind this was if a log dropped on it The width being up and down would give it more strength and prevent bending as easily. If you ordered the "I" Beam reach with the truck, Then the saddle on top of the water tank was changed from the "V" configuration one with the two rubber pads to the square style with rubber pads on three sides. A good number of the "I"Beam reaches were used for Pup Trailers where they were not really long or adjusted a lot .The round reaches were easy to slide in and out to extend them if need be, Or shorten for short logs Just pull the pin and unwrap the air and water lines. More tinkering around with the "I"beam ones

Cool drawings..One on the left invokes some memory's(similar design)...I didn't build a lot of the Pacific trailers but I certainly built my share of conv and pre loader trailers.Other than pounding the spring boxes on they were kind of interesting..Would get a order for 3 P-16's preloaders and 6 trailers..you knew you would be busy for a while...Good times....

Yes they did.. However all the trucks hauling out in the NitNat area, Be it Conventionals or the PreLoads Were all restricted to 14 foot wide bunks due to the width of the big NitNat bridge. It was an old bridge with "Gabled" sides and very narrow. By the time we got the 3 new 3412 P16's the bridge had been replaced and all the trucks /Trailers after 1975 came with the 15 foot wide bunks Needless to say, the six preload trailers that came with the 3 Pacifics were in big demand
