500 - 600mA is a lot of draw and will drain batteries fairly quickly. Ignition off draw should be 70mA or less. Usually less. My Dodge with a pair of group 31s in had a problem and was drawing 250mA. Batteries would be dead after sitting for 2 weeks at most. Tested a Jeep last week only 29mA.

One thing to note when testing is to leave the vehicle sit with the meter checking it for several minutes or more without any electrical events taking place. Then see what the reading is. You need to wait until the ECM goes to sleep mode. Before that it is running tests, checking things and sucking amps. I saw one pull 2500mA for 30 seconds before it started to drop. After 5 minutes and several drops it was down to 60. Any electrical event like pulling a fuse etc. will cause it to wake up and draw more power. Then takes awhile to sleep again.

Leave a trickle charger on it and check in the morning with an temp gun to see if the alternator is warmer than the rest of the machine. The alternator almost always has battery power all the time, and the diodes get leaky.
