I got the fittings to install the tank heater. The pump came with hose fittings, but too small. Next time I’ll be able to install the tank heater and see if the loader will make it to the top. If so, I can schedule tire installation.

Donaldson doesn’t have a water absorption filter for this filter type. They do have eight housings for a water absorption filter, I’m thinking of changing to one. I asked a local supplier to look into it. I’m thinking flushing the system will still leave a residue, then the filter can take care of it.

Finally had a chance to check the parking brake, after I installed the linkage. I had it on a slight downhill, put it in neutral and let it start to move. Stepped on the brake and it stopped it, but needs tightened up. When I let off it started moving again, it didn’t lock into an “applied” position.

It’s this type of lever, but with rounded diamond plate as a foot pedal. And it has a chain to a release lever. I thought the action within this lever locks it into place??

Got it warmed up and started, ran it an hour and a half. I only had it at an idle in the beginning, higher rpm warmed it faster. I will try it from the beginning next time, shouldn’t take as long. There was a noticeable difference when the coolant started into the loader engine, the Travelall temp gauge dropped thirty degrees. The supply hose was hot, and the return hose was cold. Before I started it the loader temp gauge was 3/4 up the white area. The tank heater didn’t get it that hot after running over twice as long.

I want to put teeth on the bucket for digging. Can not use the existing holes, they added a deeper cutting edge in the front. They are not available by application. I measured the plate thickness, and am looking at options.

I backed the parking brake fine adjust all the way off, it was a long ways. Then disconnected the linkage at the bottom, set the lever in the applied position, pulled the lever on the parking brake drum to the applied position, and adjusted the linkage length to match. I still had to adjust the fine adjust in more to make it feel like it was setting. I thought it was good, until I went to use it. It pressed down too easy, and didn’t hold. I think I need to cut the linkage, to stay at the top of the fine adjust. I can’t go any shorter right now.

The steering control valve started leaking again in December. I thought all the o-rings failed (we used hardware store o-rings), it was one loose nut on one of the bigger fittings. I tightened it, and no leak now.

All fluid levels were good, except I added a gallon of antifreeze. Coolant isn’t leaking, it’s down from adding the hoses to heat the engine.

I ran coolant through the loader engine forty minutes and it fired right up. I will try it at thirty minutes next time.

G..G..G..Granville.........!! Fetch your cloth.
If it's hard you may have to get a carbide tipped cutter. Somewhat more costly but so is the welding rod to weld the hard stuff without cracking...
You can weld tooth adapters to a bucket lip with nothing more technical than E7018 low-hydrogen electrodes provided the correct precautions are taken before, during, & after welding. Rocket science it ain't.

Awesome thread!
Although my old Hough is not in need of much you have done.
I have been going thru it and doing all the neglected maintenance and fixing stuff as I go.
Fun to read of someone else willing to go thru all the efforts to keep these old machines going.
