I doubt that sector of their business is very busy right now with all the mill closures and other issues in forest industry in the north west. Also some of the steep terrain is machine shovel logged/ forwarder on a tether etc where previously it may have been cable logged. T-Mar has also dented the new machine sales and the renovators of old haulers have also delayed sales of new machines. Yoders can also do smaller areas of steep ground.
Also takes out the Madill tracklog loaders again?
This the parent company of nico and madill? Making changes ahead of a meeting?

I liked to try to read between the lines on company descriptions and their own batch of phrasing to make themselves look high tech. This is from the web site. How would you decipher what it means?

Kadant Inc. is a global supplier of high-value, critical components and engineered systems used in process industries worldwide. The Company’s products, technologies, and services play an integral role in enhancing process efficiency, optimizing energy utilization, and maximizing productivity in resource-intensive industries.

Look at all the key words! Someone in marking must have burned the midnight oil putting that paragraph together. To me it says they are in the business of finance buying up other people's technology and parading it out as their own, until it doesn't sell or work.

Bottom line, tier 4 compliancy killed the Madill log loader line as their 3000/4000 were garbage and they flat-out said they were not going to build a 172 in a tier 4 compliant format.

One of our contractors just got a 4000. I meat to go see it yesterday but didn't make it. I can't imagine that a tier 4 yarder engine would do so well with all the idle time.

Be interesting to see what happens if Oregon does a tier 4 requirement like they tried to this year, the way we understood it no retrofits would be comply with the law they want.

I'm thinking initial cost and financing did more to kill production than anything else. How many loggers can justify the cost and secure a banker that will loan the cash on more than a million dollars of highly depreciable machinery especially with all the new production methods mentioned above.
Many might disagree with me but from what I've been told, the addition of DEF seems to have mitigated the idle operation problems and brought the fuel economy back up. Of course your savings in fuel will be eaten by the purchase and use of DEF.
I'm hoping the political temperature in Oregon has changed a bit since so many rural people opened the eyes of their politicians. Many of their elected reps found out that leaf lickers won't keep them from getting un-elected.

"The end result reveals the original intention"
Many regulations are written by the big Wall Street players to put the little guys out of business.

They said it will happen next session or nothing else will get done so we’ll have to see.

John this was stated after the session was over, what stopped it was one party walking out of the house. Also in that Metro the tri county area there’s still a ton of logging still going we were in Washington county up off 26 when all of this took place and if it had we no longer would of been able to work in the Metro area.

So what are you going to do going forward. If your elected "representatives" have their way, there will be no logging in Oregon.

not a layoff - fired. No one left, nicholson staff taking over madill - good luck getting any parts knowledge or service no one left who knows yarders.
