I've heard of the pinion bearings going out on them but that would sure be leaking noticeably at the input... at least for a while... not to mention all the end play you'd have on the driveshaft :eek:

Have to scrape all the metal off the magnet and jbweld it back into place! 1/2 turn? wowsa, maybe the pinion is walking back and forth due to a loose pinion nut giving the wrong backlash.

just pulled the plug ` not out of oil but low lots of ugly stuff on the magnet` something is well on the way out `pinion seems tight no back&forth mvmt.&the seal is leaking. never tackled one of these but am about to get my first lesson think its an 80

Chunky stuff is not good. I dropped the oil in the front diff on a 960 loader once and it sounded like marbles being dropped in the pan. It started out as a routine service and got worse.

one in the middle has had a problem for a while :confused: the slack in mine tell me i`m gonna forget it goose it to hard and really make a mess
If you see a f450 seting it will because of the rear end. If it was mine i would push it in to a shop and pull it apart if i liked it. I have junked several because of the rear ends being out with bad houseings.
