I cut these trees in March and hauled most of them home for firewood. I dug the stumps in mid May and had this fire at the end of May. A 50 ft. diameter or smaller pile is easy to get a permit for. Clean gravel soil really helped here. In two burns the stumps were about gone. No tires used. A bit of Big D accelerant was all it took to start it. A no cost burning permit is needed here in the summer. None is required when there is snow cover on the ground. We are required to call or email in the permit number after 5 PM each day and get a authorization number before burning. Fire is supposed to be out by 8 AM but have never been bothered when it continues to burn.IMG_20190601_210457800.jpg

Fires have to be out by a certain time? Boo! I imagine it's not uncommon for these fires to last days and weeks, like ours do. Mine typically aren't giant roaring fires but they smolder and stoke up very nicely for a while after starting them.
