Technically load sense is only possible with variable displacement pumps. For fixed displacement a pressure compensator (aka unloader) provides a similar function. It is not quite as efficient as LS because it is still pumping 100% flow, but you get the benefit of a simple trash tolerant gear pump. We called it the 'poor man's' load sense.

If I’m not mistaken ( “it’s been a while” would be little understatement) they call unloader “pilot operated priority valve”!

I’m messing with Wiggins special marine forklift, I think it’s build on Taylor’s “Big Red” platform! But Big Red have air breaks and air operated parking break! The only Big Red I remember with hydraulic breaks is the old one with gas engine!
This goofy thing has a hydraulic breaks powered by main hydraulic system and parking break powered by two hydraulic accumulators. It’s also has air cooled Deutz engine, and interesting thing that it uses hyd. Oil cooler that’s sits beside engine cooler, but looks like unloader and thermostat housing are on opposite side of an engine bay from cooler and hyd tank. So it’s a big “rats nest” of very thick hoses!
The compartment where almost all hydraulic controls situated other a welded up thick sheet metal box with only one removable cover on the side, which is not “hose pulling” friendly!
And manual for this thing is not very easy to find!
So I was looking at this interesting looking contraption that is is the first one in line on gear pumps discharge line between pump and MCV and has two smaller lines - one going to accumulators, and other somewhere deep in to “rats nest”! Was thinking to my self: “what a hell are you”, by the routing you got to be some kind of priority valve?!?!. Luckily the whine paint of name plate peeled of, and I have been able to see something that turned out to be - accumulator charging, load sensing priority valve. But the pump on this thing is an gear pump, I even looked at the pump again maybe it is one of those variable displacement vane pumps?! But no - the only two hoses at the pump is suction and discharge, no other smaller lines. And then it dawned on me: the first time I’ve seen LS system for fixed displacement pump was on older Hyster Z90B telehandler.
