I'm out back the other day and my neighbor is loading stumps in his dump with his new Kubota excavator. I happen to be looking down there when BANG! the bucket just FALLS OFF on the ground! You don't see that every day. I walk down & he's looking in the dirt for parts "grumble, grumble, that's the 5th time that's happened!". Say what? Look at it and the quick change, I assume it's Kubota, is the stupidest design I've ever seen. Hard to describe, but has a pin with a lynch pin holding in in- yeah, that's going to work right until something flips that bail up and the pin falls out. I'm sure I can come up with something that will work better for him but for now just a 3/8" bolt double-nutted holding that pin in.

I have the same setup on my kx-121, usually only a problem with the 1 ft bucket. I use the HD clips(black) from TSC, and keep it on the left side where I can keep an eye on it.
The only thing he has used it for so far really is loading slash piles with the rake & digging stumps so there is a lot of things that will get in there and flip the lynch pin. Probably not so much of a problem if all a guy was doing is digging dirt.

The new place. (2) 10ac. parcels central Idaho. Now all I've got to do is...everything. My last big project. No building permits or land use rules makes it easier. The goal is to be settled in there fully by this time next year.

No winter pics of this property. A good friend of mines family has been there forever (homesteaded 7 miles south of this property) so I was able to get a pretty good idea what it is like. Really quite mild, not like on the coast where I'm at now but not bad. A little hotter in the summer than I like, but pretty mild winters- snow on/off and then rain melts it. One said he can only remember 3 times in the past 40 years there was snow on the ground all winter.
I'm a little shocked at the price differences. I've been using costs I know here for budget numbers on things to figure out what I can do without going into debt. So far well drilling, electrical service, septic are WAY less there. Even gravel; 3/4- clean is $10/yd there and $41/yd here.
Closed on the property last week. I've never had that much dirt to work with so I may dig big holes just because I can. Not excited about moving all my junk and building a new shop & setting it up. It will be the first time I will contract most of the work out rather than do it all myself.

Faster and I just don't have it in me anymore to do a big project. Used myself up in my younger years working to hard for too many hours I guess. The guy that sold me the property (he's also my neighbor now) has been there for 40+ years and is pretty connected in the community so easy-peasy finding the "right" contractors.
I ended up a spell south of you, but still in Idaho!

Just spoke to Unc in CdA, they had a light snow but ground was too warm and dissipated rapidly, currently just wet.

Wet and snow over the weekend, and getting below freezing at night for a couple days in CdA. Broke out the insulated bibs putting a radiator in the wife's 4Runner outside when the weather was hitting. Entertaining watching the coastal folks freaking out more than anything.

Know what you mean about slowing down. Bronco tank is leaking, it is going to a garage, no more laying underneath vesicles except oil changes, shocks.
I am only 80, duno know what I'll do when I am old!

Unc lives about center mass of CdA, been to Post Falls and the farm market with them on visits, town is changing as most do from when I hauled sheet plate into Comet Trailers of Spokane or Lumber out of that region. Both my Dad and Unc were Navy Basic Trained north of there at the old Farragut Base(now a park).
Drink fine Bourbon & smoke expensive cigars while watching other people work and give them advice they didn't ask for? That's my plan at least....

Friend had taken actual tour of the site. The guide was very informative but not much to see now. “Over here, 60 years ago, was...”
Neat, though, seeing bits of history.

According to the Wiki article, it is still used because it is a nice big lake without the hazards of the open ocean, for certain testing purposes.

Yes still a Navy Ships design test facility there, went to an open house there in 2010. The Extra Deep lake was the Navy's Choice as well always COLD so the new enlistees could learn survival for Frigid Ocean Waters. Dad knew how to swim as did my Uncle, many boys did not. Had Rowing/Accessing training exercises with actual Lifeboats as used on US Navy ships. Dad and Unc went on to Great Lakes Naval Air Station for advanced Anti Sub training.
