Driving through industrial part of Everett Washington to avoid traffic on I-5 and ran across these oldies and one newbie. Also stumbled across the mill where we get our lumber from on San Juan island.

That Hitachi looks great! Did you guys swap the undercarriage or was that already under it? What is the idea behind the attachment, it looks pretty interesting.

Yes it was a complete bottom swap. The attachment it used for silviculture work prepping blocks for new trees.

Bremcoe, good looking pair of excavators. For some reason I like the colour scheme on that series of Hitachi more than later ones.

The Hyundai looks very similar to a picture csquared posted on #2 of this thread. Apart from triple grousers and some pipework and protection on the boom, same machine?

Any more pics? !

Cheers.

Years later, but any more photos of the Hyundai? I think one of our owner operators owns that machine now.

Yeah I've never seen a dangle head used to load, could get expensive in a hurry!

How does the grapple processor do loading? Can you load smaller timber quickly?
It's ok. Its not as easy to load with as the Peirce but it processed better. It loads small logs way better than big ones, and shirt loggers are a bit of a pain since the head pretty much takes up all the space between the bunks and blocks your view of the headache rack. Id rather load with a grapple but all in all once you get over the learning curve they do pretty good

Nice to know. I know the Pierce loads better as it has two sets of grab arms but I have never heard anything good about the head overall other than its ability to load. The Southstar is essentially there QS600 processor but without the long hanging bracket and with better grab arms. It will Buck just as much wood as the processor counterpart, just you cannot fall with it. I am really considering getting one to eliminate one machine and operator and fuel card on our Landing. For our little yarder only yarding six to seven loads per day I think it would do just fine.

Average 12-17 minutes in small stuff. It's definitely not as fast as a shovel but it cuts the expense of a shovel, operator, and fuel.
